~ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER!!!~ Born into slavery in Missouri around 1864, George Washington Carver rose to become a world-renowned agricultural scientist and a prominent symbol of American ingenuity. After becoming the first Black student and faculty member at Iowa State University, he spent over 40 years leading the agriculture department at the Tuskegee Institute. Carver revolutionized Southern farming by promoting crop rotation—encouraging farmers to plant nitrogen-fixing crops like peanuts, sweet potatoes, and soybeans to restore soil depleted by cotton. To ensure a market for these new crops, he developed over 300 products from peanuts alone, including dyes, plastics, and various food items. Known as the "Peanut Man" after his influential 1921 testimony before Congress, Carver dedicated his life to selfless service, donating his savings to further scientific research and becoming the first Black American honored with a National Monument.
