The First Time – Part 1 Jay Walker was ambitious. He had BIG plans for himself and was determined to follow them through. His parents, Ed and Edna, lived in and owned a junkyard. He was a little—well, REALLY—embarrassed by that. Life wasn’t easy when you were born in a junkyard, but he pushed through. Nya Smith felt the urge to do something—something for the world. Her older brother, Kai, was already running their parents’ blacksmith shop after they disappeared. She learned that things didn’t come easily to her; she needed to work for them, not wish for them. His parents wanted him to go to the store and buy something for his dad. Jay said yes and actually enjoyed the trip. As a junkyard kid, he didn’t go out much. He had a smudge of grease on his cheek, but didn’t notice. Then he saw her. She was wearing the prettiest dress he had ever seen—a red one with little designs on it—and her black hair blew in the wind. He instantly realized he had that smudge of grease and immediately wiped it off. He has NEVER seen such a pretty girl before.
