In light of the death of Charlie Kirk, I've been reflecting on the reactions to his and other people's deaths. While many people across the political spectrum were appalled by the deaths, far too many were celebrating them. When Kirk was killed, people were getting tattoos of the moment he was shot and filming themselves laughing about it. Now, I don't care what your political views are, but I do care whether or not you are acting human. These reactions, just like with December of last year's death of Brian Thompson, United Health CEO, were ghoulish. I can't believe I just had to say that. It shouldn't be that hard to be human. Also, this is going on a tangent, but when Kirk stated he didn't believe in empathy, he meant it when it was used manipulatively, as it so often is. He said "I think sympathy is a better word." The news media take people's (not just Charlie's) words grossly out of context. They can make a saint look a like a demon if they so desire. Back to the main article, I'm realizing how the celebration of people's deaths has become the norm, at least in certain cases. To anybody who makes the claim of having a moral compass, this ought not to be the case. We are more divided than ever before, and this is exactly how certain people want us to be. Leftists are told to hate conservatives, and in some instances, unfortunately, vise versa. Blacks and Whites, rich and poor, religious and non-religious people are pitted against each other. We need to turn off the programs that promote hatred and division. We need to use our minds how God made them to be used. Although, it will be hard, we need to set aside our differences and speak out against the crimes being committed by the powerful, or else we'll all fall. This system is completely corrupt. It needs to be taken down, without reducing ourselves to "their" level. How many other people must perish before we realize we have to work together? Thousands, millions? By then, it will be too late. Why should we go on like this, hating people and celebrating their deaths? Just because they are "good" or "bad", it doesn't mean that we have to lower ourselves to the supposed level of the people we hate. We can disagree without hating. Doesn't it mean our differences will be resolved? Unfortunately, it's a fallen world, so no. But we can stop dehumanizing each other. It's time we unite or die.
