Zelda’s pov: I was on my way to the bus stop to meet up with my best friend, Purah. I usually got there before her because she always took forever to get ready. When I got there, a boy I hadn’t seen was on his phone, earbuds in, laying on the bench and scrolling. His hair was dark blonde, and his eyes were a shade of ocean blue. His hoodie was dark blue, and his dark green sweatpants were starting to gain holes in the knees. His sneakers were caked with dirt and mud. His backpack was blue and covered in mud, the seams about to burst. I don’t think it was just schoolwork in there. I cleared my throat, but he didn’t look up. He took up the entire bench, so I was going to ask if he could move, but I changed my mind. He looked like he needed some space. I saw his eyelids droop not once, but three times. He looked to be struggling to stay awake, trying to distract himself from sleep by scrolling on his phone. I finally got a text from Purah that said, Sorry, can’t meet you at the bus stop. Got a cold lol. See you tomorrow. Great. Now I was stuck here alone. The boy shifted his position and settled in again. I finally had room to sit down, so I did. He flinched briefly then went back to scrolling. I didn’t want things to get awkward, so I asked him a question. “So, where are you heading?” “School.” He muttered. He turned up the sound on his phone, as if to block me out. “What school?” I asked He rolled his eyes. “Central Hyrule.” When my bus finally arrived, I got up. His hand wavered over his bag before he finally slung it over his shoulder and stood up too. I got on and scanned my bus pass, and he followed. He didn’t have one, and when the driver asked, he ignored him and walked to the very back. I stayed in the front where I usually did, but I wondered why he didn’t have a pass. When the school received new students, they were sent one in the mail. I told myself an excuse; that he forgot to bring his. But I knew it wasn’t the truth. When we finally arrived at the school, I waited by the bus door until he came out. His eyes flickered in my direction, but he mostly ignored me. I followed him, watching how he tucked his phone and earbuds into his pocket. It wasn’t just a until I got to my locker tuck. It was a keep in my pocket all day tuck. My gaze flickered away just long enough for him to escape into the crowd. I tried my best to find him, but he disappeared like smoke. I guessed that he was used to it, Not wanting to be seen.
