Bury Me Beneath The Willow Act I - The Light Outside Is Fading (But I'm Not Gonna Give Up Yet) Chapter 1 - Lost Things Go Where Eyes Avoid ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ vVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVvVv ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Avid awoke with a start. Where was he? Right. Olm had sent him to wherever this place was. He was on a large block of grass, the only thing around, aside from what was on the island, was the sky. To his left, there was a jungle tree and a chest. To his right, there was someone else who was curled up, back facing him and a blue and gold coat so large it appeared to swallow them whole. He knelt down next to the body and checked for a pulse. Alive. Avid rolled the person over and was shocked to see a boy who appeared to be in his late teens. ///Is Olm trapping kids now?/// Standing up and looking through the chest, Avid let his mind wander. ///What should I do? There's an unconscious kid, we're stuck in the sky, and there probably isn't anyone around for miles!/// The way Olm's mind worked was a mystery to him. In the chest, there was a lava bucket, ice, and a sapling amongst other things, but he was interrupted before he could get a proper look at everything. The kid let out a small cough, and Avid turned and knelt down beside him again. He was awake but squinting his eyes, probably getting used to the light. “Hey, uh–” “Avid?” The kid asked in disbelief. “Avid!” He threw his arms around his neck, pulling him in for a tight hug. Avid blinked in surprise. ///How does he know me?/// Was Avid's memory messed up? Or was the kid's memory messed up? Olm said that he wouldn't tamper with Avid's brain, but he could have been lying. He remembered everything else though, about his real home, about Limbo, everything. But if the kid is the one with the broken memory… The boy was shaking, and Avid realized that he must be crying. “Hey… what's wrong?” He softly whispered, “I thought I'd never see you again. The war, the attacks… smoke, bl00d, everywhere.” Stunned, Avid finally returned the hug. This wasn't adding up; Avid had never been in any war, and he was sure he would have heard about it if there was. It couldn’t possibly have happened while he was in Limbo, because Olm had shown him proof that time was going so slow that it was basically frozen in the real world. “I… I’m here. What– what happened?” “I almost died.” His voice cracked at the end. “I'm fine now though. But Avid… you already knew this.” Avid blinked, and everything was gone. He was back in Limbo, with Olm standing in front of him. “What did you do to him!?” He yelled and lunged at Olm. He went through him obviously. Olm was made of smoke. “He’s convinced that we know each other, but I don’t even know his name!” Olm just let out a dry laugh. “This wasn’t my doing. But I can help you, as long as he never finds out the truth.” “What… what do I need to do?” “There are people you need to talk to. Tell them what they need to know.” “...Who?” “Viking Pilot from the Dark Oak Kingdom. Anathra from Spruce. M1G from Bamboo. And Leon from the End.” “So I tell them that the kid has memories that aren’t his own? I’ll be lying to him forever…” Avid bit his lip nervously. “It is what you must do. Oh, and Avid. Don't forget your original objective.” Avid blinked again and was back on the sky block, still holding the kid. ///But Avid… you already knew this./// At that moment, he knew what to do. He was going to pretend to have lost his memories. It shouldn’t be too hard. “No, I… I don’t even know who you are,” that part was true, at least. “What?” The kid released him and pushed himself back a bit. “It’s me! Your younger cousin Doovid! You tried to convince me not to enlist, remember?” Avid immediately felt guilty. But it's what he must do. “I'm sorry… my, um, mind feels a bit fuzzy. I don't… remember anything?” Doovid looked heartbroken. “What do you mean…?” “I mean I don’t know who you are. I said that already.” Avid was a terrible liar, he knew that about himself. “Avid…” “I know who I am. I know how to do regular things. I just… I don't remember where I came from.” That wasn't entirely a lie. After being stranded for so long in Limbo, Avid was starting to forget what home looked like. No. He would get back soon. Or d1e trying.
