Chapter One, Mira: I looked outside the bus. I was going home from school. Dean, my best friend, was sitting next to me. The bus slowed to a stop. I looked at Dean and waved. "Bye! See you tomorrow, Mira!" Dean said. He stood up and headed out of the bus. I looked back out the window and saw him head into his house. I sighed. The bus started moving again. My house was the next stop. I shifted in my seat. I looked at my backpack and set it on the seat next to me. I looked back out the window. I saw my house. The bus stopped five houses away from it. I stood up and took my backpack. I heard out of the bus and walked down the street. It was silent except some cars sometimes passing by. I opened the front door. A sticky note was on the other side of the door. I closed the door and grabbed the sticky note. It read, I will be at work until 9:00 PM. Hope you had a good school day sweetie! See you soon, Mira! I put it back on the door and went upstairs. I went into my room and closed the door. I set down my backpack. Slowly, I felt my skin changing. I felt fur on my back. I looked in the mirror. It worked! I was a dog. I closed my eyes and imagined being human. Soon, I felt human again. I opened my eyes and saw myself again. I laid down on my bed. "Could I tell people?" I whispered. I looked out my window and sat up. I touched my bed. I jumped up and walked out of my room. I closed the door behind me and went downstairs. I carried my homework to the kitchen table. I sat down with a pen in hand and started doing my homework. Once I finished, I ran upstairs and put it in a folder in my backpack. I laid down on my bed. I thought about my ability. It seemed cool. I thought of the dog I turned into. It looked like the dog I had when I was younger. He d*ed a couple of years ago. I sighed and sat up again. I saw a bird fly by. I closed my eyes and shook my head. "Don't turn into a bird!" I whispered. I opened my eyes. I wasn't tiny. I wasn't a bird. I sighed in relief. I laid back down in my bed and stared at the ceiling. I stood up and looked out my window. I thought about being a cat. Slowly I got smaller and smaller. I tried to speak but a meow came out. I felt excited. I ran out of my room and ran around. I tried to become human again. It was harder. Finally, I felt human. {Am I risking anything?} I wondered. I sat down on the couch. I put on headphones and turned on music on my phone. I sighed and closed my eyes, listening to the music.
