Let me tell you about the time I met my future self..... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was dark out and most of the street lights faltered. She was standing on the side of the road, under one of the lamp posts, watching me approach. Like she was waiting for me. She had on a tank top and shorts. Her arms were bare. It was crazy to think that there was ever a time I would not be afraid to show my arms. A time when I wouldn't have to cover them up. Her eyes were soft and bright. The lines that traced the underside of my eyes weren't there. Her hair was long and even and fell freely over her shoulders. She looked so happy. I looked at her arms again before speaking, "you stopped" She smiled "we did." "What changed?" She stopped smiling but her gaze was steady. Mine wasn't. I stopped looking directly at her. "We did. We stopped letting everyone tell us how to live our life. We stopped letting their opinions rule what we did." The gold locket on her neck reflected the light of the lamp post. Mine was hidden under my hoodie. "Did they leave?" I looked back at her. "Some did. The fake ones did. But the ones that stayed changed too. They wanted the happiness that we had and we helped them get it." She smiled again. "So where are you now? Where am I?" She put a hand on my shoulder. "Your not like this forever. Some leave, some stay, and you learn to let go without forgetting. We are exactly where God lead us and everything that happened to you and everything that happened to me gave us what we needed to be here. I'm here today, but your here with me. You don't ever leave." I could feel myself wanting to cry as I thought about all the times that I almost wasn't here, all the times that someone else almost took me away and all the times i almost took myself away. She huged me tight and said one last thing to me before leaving me, "thank you for letting me get here. For not letting go."
