a brown dwarf is a failed star, meaning it never had enough "fuel" to ignite itself to go through the star life cycle. they are roughly about the same size as Jupiter, which is theoretically sometimes identified as a failed star, as well. but instead of Jupiter being called a failed star, it would rather be called a successful planet. but, that's not what i'm talking about here. look in the notes and credits to see the real reason.. yes, I actually typed that whole paragraph
