Sonic was pacing around a grassy park, infuriated with everything. Tails had invited him to his house, but Sonic couldn’t enjoy it, even when they watched movies with a TON of caramel popcorn. Not after what the jerks did to him. But what could he do? He was powerless. He didn't even care about working out at the gym, as he'd mostly been working himself out with his part-time job at the ice cream parlor. Except today was his free day, which was good. But Sonic couldn’t handle it any longer. He sprinted away from his small hut, from the bullies, from everything. He didn't even realize he was running at the speed of sound until a shockwave of air came from behind him and the wind slapped his face. He yelled as he skidded to a halt. He panted. What was that? How did he do that? He looked at his hands, feeling scared… then powerful. He clenched his fists, concentrating his anger, and saw blue bolts fly around them. He did it again, imagining the bully that gave him the swirly about to get punched. The sparks grew stronger. Sonic sped off, the bolts following his trail. He never felt so… so powerful... And free. He went faster, and the sound barrier broke again. He started laughing, genuinely laughing for how happy he was. Then he saw the sky. Night. Without stopping, he sped to his thick hut, relishing the startled reactions of the few mobians he zoomed by. Nobody would know it was him anyways. - Sonic skipped up to Shadow first at school, as he caught sight of him first, and tried not to use his newfound speed to spread the news. “Shadow!” He called. Shadow turned, looking bothered, then saw Sonic’s ear-to-ear grin. “What happened? A new Superman issue came out?” “No, better!” Sonic shout-whispered. He came closer. “I have superpowers!” Shadow instantly stiffened. That was not the reaction he wanted. “Clarify,” Shadow demanded. He had fully stopped and turned around, giving Sonic his full attention. “Well yesterday. Um, I was suddenly able to run fast. I know that sounds stupid, but I broke the sound barrier! You know how significant that is?” “Yes. I was paying attention in physics. Now, what else?” “Well, this glowy blue lightning came outta my hands! See?” Sonic strained to summon it, but it didn't appear. He tried harder, then Shadow got his attention, snapping his fingers. “Stop or you'll sh-rt yourself,” he said briefly. Sonic bawled laughing. “Sorry! Sorry! AHA!! That-that's too funny!” Then he stopped, now serious. “Shadow, do you believe me?” Shadow looked at him for a long time. “If I didn't know better, I'd think you read too many Flash comics, but. The thing is… I have strange powers too.”
