Day 1 of Lent. 1️⃣ What is Ash Wednesday? Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent in the Church, where some Christians (and non-Christians alike) can visit church to receive blessed ashes in the form of a cross on their foreheads! 2️⃣ What is Lent? Lent is the 40-day period before Easter where Jesus spent time alone in the desert. During Lent, Christians fast or "give up" a bad habit to gain spiritual discipline and prepare for Jesus' Resurrection. Christians also take time to pray and reflect on themselves and give alms (like donating to the poor). Christians cannot eat meat on Fridays during Lent (myself included), so they usually eat fish. Catholics like myself usually do not say "Alleluia" or "Hallelujah" (Praise the Lord) during this period because we are in a state of solemn reflection. However, on Easter Sunday and/or Easter Vigil, we say it a lot at church to rejoice in Christ's Resurrection! 3️⃣ Winter, do you participate in Lent? Yes I do! As a Catholic I try to prepare myself for Easter Sunday by becoming a better person. I gave up doomscrolling for Lent lol 4️⃣ Can Non-Christians Participate in Lent? Yes they can! Lent is a time of self-improvement, self-discipline, and breaking bad habits. Anyone can do these things to become a better person. Feel free to ask me anymore questions about Lent down below! ✝️
