I step into the Kishi family front yard and ring the doorbell. It's almost March, and it feels so much like a reality check that the Winter that we're used to is going away slowly. Marina answered the door. She didn't know what to say. "Sa...Sabrina." "Yeah it's me. I just want to talk a bit." "I guess. I'm not sure if the others are okay with what happened back then. But you're welcome here." I step into the house, take off my jacket to hang and put my shoes in the closet. I don't notice Serenity, Erin, and Marina's little sister Mei looking at me. As I look up and make eye contact with them, my heart rate accelerates and I internally panic, specifically because of Serenity, which was weird because they didn't look mad. Mei looked happy, Erin looked concerned, but Serenity's expression surprised me as I thought she would feel more angry than the way she felt now... ...which looked like regret. "I-I..." I manage to stutter out. "I'm-" "I'm sorry" Serenity confesses. Then she comes towards me and hugs me. "I didn't think about you and said those things." I looked up to see Mei was gone, probably in another room, and Marina and Erin were trying to mind their own business, but was relieved that all of that weight was gone. "It's okay. It's not like I hate you or everything, I didn't think about you and the others at that time, leaving like that," I replied. After talking things out, I had to confess something. "I'm...not going to high school with you guys. I'm not even going to live in Oregon anymore." "WHAT?!" Marina was shell-shocked. "Why?!" "My dad wants to move to Belgium to be with a family member who needs his support, while my mom got fired from her job and she can't find any new ones here." "Woah...that's really heavy. Are you sure you're okay...?" Serenity asked. Erin didn't say anything because she's blunt and sharp-tongued, but I'm pretty sure she means well. "Well, all we can do is make the most out of our friendship," Marina replied. "Plus, we all have phones so we can just text each other." I guess my last winter in Prideston will not be that bad.
