Cheesefare or Maslenitsa is basically the final week before the beginning of Great Lent (NOT the same as Catholic Lent). It is mostly celebrated in Slavic countries that are predominantly Eastern Orthodox like Russia (the setting of this animation) and theres a lot of cool stuff like making an effigy of "Lady Maslenitsa" and a lot of social activities like dancing and musical performances are done here because Great Lent is also a more solemn period that discourages such activities until the arrival of Pascha at least.
