"LILY!" I yelled, trying to run over to her. "Nope." Alex wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me back. I ended up smushed against his chest as a large, hairy arm swiped at where I stood. I could feel my cheeks burning as Alex huddled over me protectively. /No, Grace, not the time. Your best friend's crumpled next to the wall!/ I wriggled out of his grasp, despite his objective shouts. I drop down to my knees, hauling her against the wall. She groans, the only sign she's alive. "My...My glasses." She pats the ground around her, and I spot a glinting gleam that catches me eye. Snatching them from the ground, I gently push them onto her face. "Are you okay?" "Wow, you're sparkly!" She snorted. /Oh boy.../ "I can help." I spin around to meet a boy about our age with tousled blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He had a bag with a first aid kit slung over his shoulder, and a necklace with 3 beads on it. "David?" I asked, and even though I was confused and scared, I made sure Lily made a good impression on her crush, who seemed to have brought her to her senses. "Yeah." "Boop." Lily booped my nose. In the mind of a boy, I could see how that would be cute, and David smiled, his freckled cheeks turning a shade of pink. "Well," He pointed to a yellow cabin, where kids were rushing in with stretchers and other supplies. Then he pointed to Lily. "Could I..." "Yeah, go ahead." I stood up, expecting him to help Lily to her feet, but he lifted her like a baby in his arms. As he avoided the fight that was going on around us, she looked over his shoulder and mouthed, "My knight in glowing armor." "Grace!" I turned around again to see Alex waving me over, and I jogged to his side. "Is Lily ok?" "A bit delusional, but she'll be fine." "You scared me, almost getting stabbed." His face turns red, and my oblivious self says it's from battle. "Not gonna change for a while, I guess." I ducked as an arrow zipped over my head. It landed straight between the spider thing's eyes. She screeched out in pain. "You wretched children!" She scuttled to a patch of darkness, and everyone moved away from her. "Especially you, little demigod." My eyes widen as she points a sharp hairy foot (or arm, I couldn't tell) at my face. "Curse you!" Then she disintegrates into a gold dust. The camp goes silent, then cheers erupt and spread. "Well that was fun. But lets get some sleep. Sadly, no campfire tonight." A half horse, half man steps out from behind me. A centaur, I remember from my history class. "And Grace, I'm Chiron, the camp's activities director. We'll talk in the morning." He smiles kindly then trots away.
