Chapter 1 Sophie Tyler and Sophie had talked once. It was some random coincidence where a bunch of their friends were all at a party. Like any good friends, they invited Tyler and Sophie too. They had both stepped out onto the host’s deck, which was illuminated in the moonlight (which made the lights around the deck pointless). And just talked about a research project they were both working on. It was not a big deal, they completely forgot about it the next day. But Emma had not. She was twirling her coppery auburn hair around one finger and absolutely was annoying Sophie. “Tyler and Sophie sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-,” she sang, until the late bell rang. “Emma, come on, you're going to make me late again,” Sophie whined. Emma giggled and they walked toward their homeroom. A few hours later, and it was history. Mr. Avery had them working in pairs on a new project based on Medieval knights and castles. And of course, he paired Sophie and Tyler together. Across the room, Emma shot her a smirk. Sophie rolled her eyes at her as she moved to the seat next to Tyler. He was sitting with his chair tilted back, he looked at her and looked away, then realized who it was, looked at her quickly and then fell backwards, arms pinwheeling. He hit the floor hard, then got up wincing, rubbing the back of his head. Some people started snickering, as was expected of a high school freshman class. “If I choose the wrong people to be paired up with, yes I am talking to you Ms. Steraling and Mr. Henceworth. Please tell me if there will be any issues,” said Mr. Avery, with a hint of amusement in his voice. Tyler’s whole face was now the color of a tomato, as was Sophie’s. “N-no,” she stammered. By now everyone was laughing. Sophie decided that they both needed to get out of there. And she had the perfect excuse. “Excuse me, Mr. Avery? Can I take Tyler to the nurse, he fell pretty hard.” She asked sweetly. “I did?” He asked, turning towards her. “Yes, you did.” She said threw gritted teeth. Tyler caught on and sat down clutching his head. “Owwwww,” he said in fake pain. “Fine,” Mr. Avery said, “I don’t want to sign paper work. Just go.” They walked out into the hallway. “Um, isn’t the nurse the other way, if not and because we are walking toward the front doors, I would love to ditch," Tyler said. “You just read my mind. Come on, let's go to my house.” As they walked through the doors, Tyler stopped, a glum look crossing over his face. “Parents-,” he started. “Aren’t home,” she said, gloating. They walked past the streets, identical houses and trees lining each side. They walked for about ten more minutes, passing street after street until they reached her house. It was a white house, with an oak tree in the front yard that always dropped acorns in the fall, along with its leaves. “It’s nice,” Tyler said. “So… what do you want to do?” “Drop your stuff inside and then, just because I am absolutely craving it, ice cream from the kitchen?” She said. Tyler nodded vigorously, and they stepped inside her house.
