I asked, trailing off. "It does look like we can't find any lanterns. They might all be taken already. I mean, there ARE 51 teams in this barrier." Arina replied, sighing. I thought for a moment,"So we've got two choices. Either we keep on looking for a lantern or start looking for a team with one. And steal their lantern. We saw some teams, remember? They didn't look like they had any lanterns though." An hour had passed since the exam started. "I want to keep looking. I'd...rather not fight." Yasushi said. I grinned at her,"Great minds think alike! I vote to 'not fight' too. What about you,Ari-ari?" "I want to fight." She said without a hint of hesitation. Both Yasushi and I turned to her in surprise. Clearly we expected a different answer. "We don't know if the lanterns have all been picked up yet." Arina continues,"We might just wander around in circles for the rest of the exam. I want to get into Kibo. And I want you two to get in too. We've worked so hard, haven't we? It would be pointless to just rely on luck. After all...I don't know what I'll do if I don't pass." I considered what she said. "On second thought...I agree with you. I want to get in too. All of us. The only reason I didn't want to fight was because it would hurt the other team to steal their lanterns. But...now's not the time to think about other people, right?" I said. "If you're both fighting, then count me in." Yasushi looked determined,"Ahh...but I won't be a big help. I'll just cause trouble." "No you won't! It's okay to make some mistakes, right? Let's all try our best and find some lantern-carriers!" I shouted enthusiastically. Arina and Yasushi nodded back in fierce agreement. (Meanwhile...) "Stop being so loud,Shen! Other teams will hear you! You're SO annoying!" Shouted the black-haired girl. "Well,in case you're blind,we DON'T have a lantern,Itsume! Or are you stupid too?!" The black-haired boy known as Shen shouted back. "WHAT did you just call me? Take that back!" Itsume punched Shen in the face. "Then STOP criticizing my every move!" Shen punched her back. And so began an all-out war of shouting, punching, and cursing. Meanwhile, the pink-haired half human-cat-bat stood there watching speechless. "Didn't this just happen five minutes ago?" Dustle thought,"So...how did I get into this situation anyway?" How did he get into this situation, indeed. Before they were all launched into the arena, Dustle had found Itsume and Shen, the only team that still needed a partner. They were glad they had found him, since they needed a full team to qualify, but couldn't they stop arguing all the time? "Your name is Dustle, you say?" Itsume had noted,"Cool name. Much more cooler than Shen Qing Zhu." "Hey!" Shen had shouted angrily,"Don't call me by my full name! I told you many times already!" Itsume had shrugged,"Welp. Guess I forgot. Sorry I'm not sorry." And they had fought with punching, shouting, and curses. Hey,wait...didn't he just have this exact same thought a few seconds ago? Dustle blinked back to reality. Yep. They were still fighting. Total waste of time. Dustle silently wished he was with Firekle instead, but he knew she wanted to be with her new friends. Instead of trying to resolve the fighting, Dustle decided to operate alone. He hoped they would figure out the problem themselves. After walking for a few minutes, his eye caught something shiny on the path. It looked like...a lantern. "...Aah?" Dustle stared at the lantern, dumbfounded. He couldn't believe his luck. "Hehe." To his surprise,he let out a little giggle, then grabbed the lantern, opened his bat wings, and flew back to Itsume and Shen at top speed. As he neared them,he heard shouting. "Are they STILL fighting?" Dustle thought, annoyed. He stepped into the clearing, holding out the lantern. "Hey,guys,I found a lantern." Dustle called nonchalantly. Itsume, who was pulling Shen's jacket, froze and turned to look at him. Shen, who was grabbing Itsume's hair, froze and turned to look at him. "Huh?" They both said in unison. Five minutes later, both Itsume and Shen had stopped fighting and started celebrating. "Way to go,Dustle!" Shen called, swinging his arm around Dustle's shoulder. "Yeah, congrats." Added Itsume. "Now we will win for sure! Because with Shen guarding it,no one will ever be able to steal this lantern from us!" Shen called VERY loudly. "SHEN!!!!! WHAT.ARE.YOU.DOING. Why are you shouting so loudly? People will hear us and know we have a lantern!" Itsume shouted VERY loudly too. At that moment, all Dustle wanted to do was kill those two idiots himself in order to shut their mouths. Itsume continued,"AND WHAT IF THEY TRY TO STEAL IT??? AND-" (+)
(+) Suddenly,a brown-haired girl who looked very fashionable suddenly popped out, along with her teammates, another brown-haired girl and a green-haired girl. The fashionable brown-haired girl snicked,"Oh ho ho. I heard you shout that you had a lantern? Why,I see it right there." She pointed to the lantern in Dustle's hands. He tightened his grip on it. "Now,if you'd kindly give it to us,I'll let you free without a fight." She looked at them smugly, holding out her hand,"Well?" "-You've gotta be kidding me." Itsume finished. (Meanwhile...) "Do we count ourselves as lucky or unlucky? Cause that's what I'm thinking about right now." Arina commented. We had found a team with a lantern. The thing was...that exact team was LAYLA's team. Her and her two identical teammates. Twins just like Me and Dustle. "We might not find another team." I said. "This might be our only chance." Yasushi added nervously. "Yeah, you guys are right." Arina nodded and stepped out, facing Layla. "Hey,Layla!" She called, summoning a biiiiig black sword with red flaming tints and pointing at Layla and her teammates. I stared at Arina with a totally blank face,"Is she stupid? They were completely off-guard. We could've just sneaked-" I shook my head,"Ahh,nevermind. Too late for that,is it?" "Yep." Yasushi replied. She looked blank-faced too. We both stepped out and joined our fellow teammate. Layla tilted her head with a smile,"Oh? What's this? People have found us already? Interesting. If you want to fight,I'll give you a fight." She signaled to her twin teammates,"Kokoro,Kotono, get ready for some action." Without waiting for a reply, she charged at Arina full-speed,summoning a huge wave of water magic on the way. Arina yelped and quickly blocked the blow with her sword. I heard the huge sound of clashing. So Layla's hydro elemental magic must be as sharp as a sword. And I'm guessing "high-level hydro elemental magic" is her special ability. I turn to face the twin girls. Kokoro and Kotono was what Layla called them. But which is which? "Kotono, take the black-haired one with a bow on her head. I'll take this...whatever hybrid she is." Ahh,so the one with sharp things similar to whips attached to her head must be Kokoro. Also the one I'm fighting. "Got it,sis!" Kotono replied with a thumbs up and turned to Yasushi. "I'm a human-cat-bat hybrid,by the way. You were wondering earlier, right?" I smiled at my opponent, while trying to analyze her. "......" "You're not saying anything."My fingers touched my mouth. "......" "If you don't want to talk, feel free to tell me to 'shut up'." I offered. Without saying a word, those whips on her head slashed at me with indescribable speed. I almost didn't duck in time. 'Almost' though. "Yikes! Well,I guess you want to fight instead of talk. You kinda look like the cold type." Another slash. And another dodge. "...I guess I should start fighting back too. Pardon me." I summoned anemo magic and fired it at her. She jumped back, out of range. Then I did a rapid-fire of electro balls and Kokoro looked like she's having a hard time dodging them all. I kept on firing. She kept on dodging and jumping. Then suddenly I changed the direction of an electro ball I had already fired. Changed the direction to hit Kokoro in the back. It worked. As soon as the ball hit its target, it exploded, stunning Kokoro. She collapsed to the ground. I fired another electro ball at her, just in case. "Is it over already?" I thought, then almost immediately added,"No." Someone like Kokoro wouldn't get defeated by just a few electro balls. Only a total amateur would. And she's no amateur, anyone could tell that. Turned out I was right. Kokoro got up suddenly, panting heavily, but slashed at me again. And again. And again. Oh. I get it. She's doing what I just did. Attacking at me over and over. Well I certainly won't let her succeed. Quickly I zoomed in behind her, then before she turned around,I launched a massive hydro ball at her. She yelped and got hit by it with full force. I didn't even give her a chance to recover before I launched a pyro ball at her. Then an anemo ball. Then an electro ball. Then a dendro ball. Lastly a geo ball. I missed the cryo ball since I hated cryo magic. But seriously, at this point I was just torturing her. So I stopped. She was a mess. Her hair was all over her body, and her whips looked like they were about to fall off. She looked barely conscious. "...I'm sorry." I said to her, feeling guilty. And I meant it. This is why I didn't enjoy fighting that much. Because I hated hurting people. But...there was a reason I fought her, right? Because I wanted Arina,Yasushi, and I to get into Kibo. Oh,speaking of Arina Yasushi...I turned to see how they're doing. Arina and Layla were still in battle. Sword against magic. But both of them looked worn out. Yasushi,on the hand...wait. Kotono's the only one I saw. She was looking at something, but I couldn't see what. So where was Yasushi? Simple answer. She was gone. TBC...
