Zombies crowd from behind us. I break into a run, darting to a skyscraper. It seems no one is there, because zombies are taking no notice of the building. The three survivors follow. "C'mon!" I mutter under my breath. "There is an area we can stay!" We go. By the time zombies notice, we are inside. Bread uses his strength to push several pieces of furniture t the door. I nail the door with wood planks. Lilac is shivering in pure terror. Lou goes upstairs to see if zombies inhibit the room. A scream erupts. "CRAAAAA—" It cuts off. "She must have been bit!" Lilac squeaks. I rush upstairs and pull out my pistol, not waiting for the others. Zombie Lou is gurgling with several other zombies. I'm an idiot. I should have gone. I thought a person capable of flight would be better off. I was wrong. She died and it was all my fault. "No time for internal collapses." I shoot all the zombies, not with my pistol, but with my machine gun. They are taken down in an instant. "Looks like the head really is the weak point after all." I check the upper rooms and all the little spots. No zombies. I run back downstairs. "Lou is dead." I report. Lilac is frantically looking at books for a source. I sigh. She's wasting her time. She pulls one, and the entire bookshelf wall creaks and moves to the side. Inside, a glowing blue gemstone sits on a pedestal. "Wha?" I mutter. I pick up the rock. Suddenly, my skin burns in a million places. I tuck it into my sack that contains my stuff. The burning stops in seconds. I suddenly feel less sluggish. "What was that?" Gruuuuuu. Grooooo. I freeze. Those were zombie noises. They were coming from behind me. I turn around. Bread was a zombie, and he was biting Lilac. The pale white skin turned greenish in an instant. They both started walking towards me. I pull out my machete and slice them with it in the skull, destroying their heads. What was that? Lilac had flashed a tiny look of actual terror before she died. And also, why had they suddenly turned into zombies? They hadn't been bit. Was the burning the virus disolving off of my skin? Was that why I felt less sluggish? My mind swirls. Is this even real?
