I would've made it a speedpaint if I knew how to, but heres a little art process of my latest post :DD Tried to make it as in depth as I could, skim if you don't want to read it all lol ^^ Btw, I also want to say that my art process isn't always consistent! It typically depends on my vision for the art piece, and I like experimenting with things in between :) this is only my process for this specific piece Steps + explanations : 1. Sketch! I recommend drawing out the basic shapes of the character first, although I usually forget to do that with the body lol (as you can see, I only drew out a circle for the head). 2. Lineart! (+ coloring in the character) Sometimes (mostly when drawing humans), I simply clean up the sketch and use that as the lineart. Typically with cats, I find it easy to just make the lineart (often times when I draw humans, lineart takes too long/doesn't look as good as the sketch). I also used the lasso tool, though the bucket tool would work IF your lineart is all connected and not as messy as mine. I just chose a random color, I would change it to the characters actual colors later. 3. Not much changed, but I used liquify to change the characters features a bit, fixed up the eyes, and started sketching out the background 4. Put some colors into the background, though I ended up changing it lol 5. I used different colors to block in the objects in the background. I would alpha lock it and change the colors later (I also decided to get rid of the moon later lmao). I separated the trees on different layers based on how far back they are, so I could easily change their colors later to reflect where they would be 6. Adjusted the tree silhouettes either with the transform tool or liquify 7. Base colors for everything!! First, I changed the background color to what I found more fitting. I usually just use the "Hue, Saturation, Brightness" thing in adjustments for this. Adjust the hue to your liking. Then with the new background color, I used it to select the color of the trees. I took the bg color, made it darker and shifted the hue a little. The trees near the back look closer to the bg's color, I kinda forgot what that effect is called but it's often seen with mountains and stuff I also changed the character's colors to what they are actually supposed to be, as well as the lineart color 8. Blocking in where some shadows and highlights would go I used multiply for the shading, and color dodge for lighter areas. For the trees, I just took their original color and shifted the colors a bit to fit what I was trying to go for, and then used a brush on a slightly lower opacity to block in shadows 9. Rendering Start drawing in the fur clumps. Use the color picker to select the fur colors, then draw them in a downward motion. Make sure to follow the direction of the fur, and don't overdo this step!!!!! I also used more color dodge to lighten it up (In the speedpaint, I also added a multiply layer to the background to make it a bit darker for the character to stand out. I do more with that later on) 10. Few more touchups to the coloring I believe I used a dark overlay layer to make it a bit darker. I began to use "add" for some highlights. More multiply layers to the background. Also drew in a mouth lol 10.5. In between 10 and 11, I added an extra add layer for highlights, didn't manage to ss it lol 11. Title (this was a tne), major color adjustments, minor additions Here, I grouped all the different layers for the character (Lineart, base colors, every different blending mode I had used). Then, I condensed it all into one layer with flatten (I recommend duplicating the group first so you can access each layer later if you want to make adjustments there, though you'll need to redo everything you did to the flattened layer). Using the "curves" tool under adjustments, I did some more adjustments to the character, bringing out the blues and changing the light and dark areas a little. Liquified a few things. Added bushes I added the tne title. I used a light-ish blue for the title, changed the blending mode to add, and lowered the opacity. I then duplicated it, used gaussian blur, an adjusted the opacity. You can keep the duplicated as an add layer or change it to color dodge. Behind the title, I airbrushed a light blue on color dodge (it made the background over there a bit lighter, but that's optional) 13. I changed the trees in the background to just the standard tree because I found it more fitting for the tne. Basically just color picked the original trees colors and painted over them on a different layer. I didn't screenshot this, but I also used a leaf brush to add a bit more texture to the trees. Try not to overdo it, but if you think your art looks better that way, go for it! yay thats it! :D (my hands hurt waaa)
art: @mousse for @GazerOfStars 's tn contest! character is also theirs procreate brushes: pelion (lineart), studio pen (fur), soft airbrush, a custom rectangular brush (trees), leaf brushes from a set i found online!
