The baby's backstory :) Burfeather wandered through the woods, heading to the spot he so often went to to bird-watch. As he approached, he could hear loud, shrill cawing, more so than usual. Quieting his footsteps, he approached slower, more calculated, trying to see what was happening without scaring off the birds now in view- magpies. Three larger, and likely older magpies swarmed around a smaller one, squawking as they swooped towards them. Although being outnumbered and overpowered, the little bird held their own, cawing and stretching out her wings to ward them off, paired with sharp pecks to any body part daring to come close enough. Magpies, Fate remembered, are very territorial. The lone bird didn't appear to have a flock, and couldn't hold her attackers off for long without one. Burfeather strode in without a second thought, his normally timid nature disappearing. These were prey animals, after all, and not stronger than him. He jumped at the small flock, managing to pin one and scare the others. Ah.. he had been aiming for two, but he wasn't the most athletic. Feathers fluttered down from the fleeing birds as he growled at the one he had pinned, before letting it fly off. Burfeather sat for a moment before looking over to the remaining magpie he had defended. The magpie sat there, looking.... a little offended? Burfeather tilted his head, thinking about what he could have done. Did that bird really think she could have fought them off on their own? "You've got a pretty big ego if you thought you could handle that." Burfeather grinned playfully. The bird, of course, squawked loudly. Ow. His ears. He glared at the bird a little. "Fine, I'll leave." He turned on his heel and began to stride out, but the bird followed. He took another step. The bird hopped behind him. He sprinted around in a circle, fast as he could, to see if they would follow. They did. Burfeather stopped, panting. "You're one weird bird, aren't you? First you're mad, and now you won't leave me alone." He joked, smoothing his fur out of his face. The bird stared at him. Ok.... "Is this because you don't have a flock?" He asked, turning so he was fully facing her. The bird tilted its head. Burfeather attempted to walk off again, but the magpie continued to follow. He stopped, a little giddy that this bird liked him, and laughed. The bird chirped and flew to land on his head, wiggling down on top as if marking him as a very odd flock member. Ether giggled again. The bird chirped back. "You want a name?" he asked, understanding they didn't speak the same language, but the bird squawked back. "Ok! I'm gonna call you.... Amaryllis. What do you think?" He asked, a little cross eyed trying to see her response when she was atop his head. Amaryllis nestled her beak behind his ear, with a sound that he could only understand as a happy bird sigh.
