Update | Schooling Freddie + Getting Him Ready for His First Show Worked Freddie this afternoon and he was his usual little speed machine. Since he had a long break from riding before I bought him, we’re really focusing on getting him retrained so he doesn’t bolt the second he feels energy build up. We kept it simple with flatwork and some poles, just helping him understand that he doesn’t need to zoom off every time we pick up the pace. He started off a bit quick and cheeky, trying to rush through everything, but once he settled he actually gave me some really nice, controlled moments. His trot is still fast, but he listened way better today and stayed with me instead of blasting off. I’ve decided to enter him in Beginner Showjumping at the upcoming show, something small to get him out, give him experience, and help him learn to stay calm in a busy environment. He’s a natural showjumper with all that energy, he just needs the training to channel it the right way. I’m excited to see how he handles it now that we’re getting him back into proper work.
