But it was better than nothing, Pyro was still shivering despite wearing Abolish's coat and Abolish was slightly worried about that. (Even though they'd never admit it). "Hello...?" The inn wasn't lit up. "Anyone?" Suddenly all the lights came on at once, making Abolish nearly drop his lantern. The man at the counter had white hair and like Cheshire one red eye and a mask covering the bottom half of his face. "Cleo! We have visitors!" His accent was hard to place... "I'll be there in a second- Etho-" Another person, presumably Cleo called back. "I'm just dealing with another customer!" The man (Who was probably Etho) looked Pyro and Abolish up and down. "What brings you here so late? Normally people come a bit earlier." Pyro had stopped shivering but was still wearing Abolish's coat. "We were talking to Cheshire. We lost track of time and this place was the only one we could find." "For the last time. Bdubs! No you can't put moss in the guest room- Hi, I'm Cleo." They beamed at Abolish. "Usually guests arrive earlier on but we can make this work." They held out their hand. "Cleo Clocker, She/They or They/Them. Me and my husband run this place." "Abolish Veylocke. He/They. This is Jack Von Pyroscythe. Also He/They. Everyone calls them Pyro." Etho leaned on the counter, still eye-ing them both suspiciously. "Etho Slab-Clocker. He/Him. Cleo's my partner. We are a magic friendly place so if you don't like magic then you can leave-" "No we're both fine with it." Pyro added quickly. "We need a place to stay for the night. Do you have one room for two...?" "You're in luck. We have one room left for two people." Etho took out a key from the drawer as Cleo spoke, handing it to them. "How much-" Pyro began. "Oh no- On the house for you two." Cleo's smile didn't fade. "You two are adorable- BDUBS WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!" They rolled their eyes. "Excuse me..." "Your room's on floor three. The lift is over there, you'll need to insert your key to activate it." Etho added, before disappearing again. It took a while for Pyro and and Abolish to figure out how to activate the elevator between them but after they did it was weirdly fast. "What room are we in?" "Three hundred and one." "My lucky number." "Really...?" "No, I'm kidding." Pyro put the key in the keyhole, turning it to get the door open. The room was cute, it had windows thankfully and a good view of the city as well as- ... It had one bed. One bed. And there were two of them. Pyro's expression matched Abolish's perfectly. This had to be some kind of mistake. There was no way, they were sharing a bed. "Do you-" Pyro began. "I'll go check. This was definitely a misunderstanding." Abolish interrupted. "They probably gave us the wrong room key." Etho was at the desk when Abolish got there, Cleo leaning on it, talking to him. Abolish decided the best thing to do in this situation was to be polite. Explain nicely and they'd give him a new room. With separate beds. "I think there's been a mistake. There's only one bed in the room." "Yeah." Cleo shrugged. "For you and Pyro." "Why do we only have one bed...?" "Isn't that what you normally do?" "What?" "Share a bed. You two are a couple right?" "What- No- No- We're not together." "Oh I see..." Cleo leaned in closer. "You want me to set you two up? You have it BAD for him." "No I don't-" "Yes you do. You clearly like him. And not just in a friends way." "We're- We're just friends. Nothing more." The words friends made him smile unintentionally. Friends... He'd never really had them before. Well, other than Shelby and Shelby was like a sister to him. They didn't think they'd be able to function without her... "No one smiles like that at someone when they're 'just friends' you two have something weird going on and I'm not changing your room until you figure it out. Now goodnight. It is late." "So...?" Pyro was sitting on the bed when he got back. "She won't change it. Says we're 'not just friends'. That's literally, what we are." Abolish sat down next to him. "We're friends now...?" "I guess." "I like that. Friends..." "Don't get full of yourself, Jack." Abolish elbowed him lightly and Pyro laughed. "You're still my sworn enemy-" "Sworn enemy? Didn't know you were so dramatic, Veylocke." "Shvt vp..." Pyro sighed. "I don't really know how having one bed will work-" "I'll sleep on the floor." Abolish interrupted. "You can get the bed. I'll go on the floor." "But now that you've said that I feel b:d and I feel like I should be on the floor and you should go on the bed." That concerns me. I'll sleep on the floor, you take the bed." Continued in Ns and Cs
Continued from the instructions// "I said that I would rather take the floor." "Why can't we just BOTH have the bed?" "Because that is definitely not what friends do." "We can sleep on opposite ends..." "Fine." Abolish lay awake for a bit, mulling over Cheshire's words. 'You never really lost it.' He never really lost it...? "Having trouble sleeping...?" "Yeah." "Well- Think about it tomorrow. It's late and you need sleep." "... I guess." When Abolish woke up, Pyro's arms were wrapped around him. They weren't sure at what point in the night Pyro had started cuddling them but at some point they'd clearly cuddled Pyro back. Abolish sighed, looked over at Pyro and decided to just go back to sleep. Wasn't worth waking Pyro up over....
