Lost in the Light Chapter 1. An outsider ‘You can’t do that, Rex!’ Firefly, a long-haired dusty-blue and red cat with tabby markings, urged. His brother, a red cat with a black-tipped tail named Rex, had won a game and, in the process, injured his sister, Lavendar, a dusty blue tabby. ‘Oh, just leave Rex be. He’ll always want to win games, and to be honest, I feel like he doesn’t really care about us that much anymore, ever since Father was taken away somewhere by the twolegs. He completely stopped caring for anyone at all! Even our twolegs noticed!’ whispered Lavender. ‘Yes, I agree,’ said Firefly. The next day, Firefly woke up, ate breakfast, and then headed outside to play, only to notice a lean, grey, long-haired cat with darker markings over its ears and tail sitting in their yard. As a matter of fact, Firefly had spotted her sitting and watching them from afar yesterday and waved to her. She seemed like a nice cat, so he went to introduce himself and his sister. ‘Hello, my name is Firefly. This is my sister Lavender, and that’s my brother Rex.’ Firefly gleamed at the new cat. She had some stuff in her paws. ‘Here.’ She handed Lavender some plants and a brown furry thing. ‘The herbs will help your cut. And that’s a mouse over there. I thought it’d be fun for you guys to try some.’ Firefly helped Lavender use the herbs. ‘Why did you think that, and also what’s your name?’ he asked. ‘My name is Mistfern. I’m a clan cat, which means I live in a big group of cats with a leader and a medicine cat. I grew up in the clans, so I’ve always wondered what life as a kittypet is like. The only cats I knew of, other than in clans, were Rogues. If you didn’t know, Rogues are cats that stick around all day in a pack, steal prey from the clans and create trouble. I knew in my heart that all cats outside of clans aren’t bad, of course. So I came to find out. Mistfern left them, leaving them to ponder what she just mentioned. ‘Do you think we should go, Lavender?’ asked Firefly. ‘Yeah, weakling. No cat wants to stay here and keep getting served like a princess doll’ came a thick voice that most definitely was not Lavender. Firefly turned around to see Rex glaring at him as if he owned Firefly. Firefly stared up at the clouds and sighed. He didn’t know what choice to make.
