I genuinely hate the western anime fandom so much that it's one of the main reasons I don't post a lot of my drawings on here or anywhere else for that matter. The amount of Patrick Star built, no deodorant having, basement dwellers that populate the anime space in America needs to be studied. Recently I was chilling in my homeroom class talking to one of my friends about my manga. Specifically i was talking about how I wanted to approach writing character relationships and more specifically, realistic and well balanced romance. Keep in mind, the manga IS AN ACTION HEAVY STORY and i stated that i wanted to have this put strain on relationships that the characters are in. Next thing I know, some complete random ahh npc just spawns behind me and my hb and starts talking abt some "If you want relationships to feel realistic, shouldn't they be having sx alot" FUH NAH GNG this ties into my larger complaints with the fandom in general. Everything is placed into categories without any room to improvise. You are always one of three things: a Shonen fan, a slice of life fan, or you are a loser who watches romance (i don't think watching romance shows or anime makes you a loser, this is just how i think other people perceive it) The anime community is so focused on only paying attention to tired tropes or jokes that any time i open up the comments to a Youtube video talking about a specific anime, i want to whip out a 12 gauge and shoot myself. everything is so forced and over-sxualized without actually understanding the source material. It's either that or JJK fans slandering every character under the sun and having the reading comprehension of a toddler. For instance, when watching hell's paradise, it is made PAINFULLY CLEAR that Gabimaru is married and only cares about his wife. SO TELL ME WHY THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE THINKING HE WILL END UP WITH SAHIRI? My grievances aren't just about people being dumb and freaky, because we are all like that sometimes. It's also this idea that Japan is this perfect utopia that perfectly mirrors the stories that come from it. People assume that Japan is this amazing country that is full of happy people because that is how it is portrayed, without realizing it has one of the highest s*icide rates in the world. Im all for appreciating different cultures and experiencing things from all over the world, but you need to have some understanding of the country you are going to before you go there. ANOTHER THING! stop larping and pretending to be a fan of something your not. If you don't like or know about something that is popular, that's fine. As long as your interests aren't hurting anyone that's cool, which is why it annoys me so much when I see people who very clearly haven't watched a show pretending to be a fan. For instance, I haven't watched stranger things past season 2, but i'm not out here pretending to have opinions on the final season. I hate when people talk squit about others interests because they aren't into it. Most of the time they have no hobbies or things they are into. My goal in life is to always be 100% authentic no matter what. If i have a story that I want to tell that is not considered normal or socially acceptable i will still make it. That's why i hate it when people call things that cover heavy topics inappropriate, because it's not like they are vulgar or violent. It's just that everyone has been babied for so long by movies and books now taking risks and being authentic.
