Kingfisherstar has never tried to favor his kits, in his eyes, they were all perfection. Although, this litter, it’s different. He’s leader now, he needs to make a difference, and so do his kits. If you had an eye you could see that Kingfisher has a clear favorite, and that is Wrenkit. Wrenkit reminds him of his mother, his soft, loving mother. As kits, you can tell most of the affection is given to her. It’s not that he doesn’t love Larkkit, but he clearly shows favoritism towards Wren. To him, Wrenkit is a soft, kind kit who should be loved, protected, under his care, unlike Larkkit. What isn’t as obvious, is King's hopes for Larkkit. Wrenkit is shown more love, but King doesn’t expect as much of her. Larkkit is like his father, King knows Larkkit is destined for great things, and so he notices him more. Some could call how he ‘favors’ Wrenkit bad fathering. How he ignores the mistakes she makes, and punishes Larkkit for his. Although, it isn’t that at all. He notices Larkkit. He notices every achievement, every mistake, every attempt at connection. He sees how bright Lark is, he knows what Larkkit is meant for. He wants Larkkit to follow in his footsteps. Not necessarily as a leader or warrior, Larkkit could be a medicine cat! Kingfisher wants Larkkit to follow in the way chooses to act, as a leader, inside his heart. Hence, he notices what Larkkit does, he is proud of him, but he supports him from a distance, letting him find life on his own. However, Wrenkit on the other hand, is left alone. Sure, Kingfisher loves her, clearly he loves her more, right? He doesn’t notice Wrenkit as much, at least not the little things. He doesn’t notice everything Wrenkit does, because he doesn’t expect as much of her. He expects a lot of Larkkit, but Wrenkit, she can stay with him forever. A sunrise A night sky A forgotten princess A lonesome poet A daughter A son
