Chapter 1: The Violet Omen The nursery of StarlingClan was a place of deep moss and soft shadows, tucked into a jagged limestone cleft where the wind only whispered. But on the night Nightkit was born, the wind did not whisper—it screamed. A freakish, out-of-season storm had turned the sky a bruised, electric purple, and the air tasted of ozone and wet stone. Inside the nursery, Petalfur groaned, her flank heaving. Beside her, the medicine cat, Feathercloud, pressed a soothing paw to the queen's side. "Breathe, Petalfur. The storm is just passing." But when the first kit slid into the nest, Feathercloud didn’t reach for the licking-moss. She froze. The kit was not the sleek black of its father, nor the soft gray of its mother. As Petalfur began to rasp her tongue over the tiny, damp body, the lightning outside flashed, illuminating the nursery in a harsh, white glare. The kit was a deep, saturated violet—the exact color of the wounded sky outside. "What is this?" a voice hissed from the nursery entrance. It was Oakstar, the Clan leader. His amber eyes were wide, reflecting the unnatural hue of the kit’s fur. "A purple kit? In a forest of shadows, she will be a beacon for every fox and hawk from here to the Sun-Drown-Place." Petalfur pulled the kit closer to her belly, her eyes flashing with a protective fire. "She is my daughter. And I will name her Nightkit." "She is an omen," whispered a queen from the back of the den, shivering. "Look at the sky, Oakstar. The ancestors are angry. They have stained her with the blood of the setting sun." Nightkit did not cry out like a normal kit. She opened her eyes—wide, pale silver orbs that seemed to drink in the darkness of the den. For a moment, it felt as though the very air in the nursery stilled. But as the days passed, the "omen" grew weaker. While her littermates, Flintkit and Smokekit, tumbled over one another and yapped for milk, Nightkit lay still. Her purple fur grew dull, and her breaths became shallow, rattling sounds that made Feathercloud shake her head in sorrow. The "White Cough" had found the smallest lungs in the nursery. By the seventh night, Nightkit’s heart slowed to a crawl. Petalfur wailed, her muzzle buried in the kit’s cold, violet fur. "Don't take her," she pleaded to the ceiling of the cave. "StarClan, please." In that moment, Nightkit was no longer in the nursery. She was walking on a path of silver mist that felt like cobwebs beneath her paws. Above her, the stars weren't distant points of light; they were massive, pulsing hearts of fire. A figure drifted out of the fog—a she-cat with fur made of frozen breath and eyes like twin moons. "You are fading before your song has even begun," the spirit whispered. Her voice sounded like the cracking of ice on a winter pond. "I’m cold," Nightkit squeaked, her tiny voice echoing in the vast emptiness. "I am Silverfrost," the spirit said, leaning down. "And I have a burden for you, little shadow. The Clans are drifting into a darkness that even the moon cannot pierce. They need a map. They need a witness." Silverfrost leaned forward and pressed a translucent, freezing paw directly onto Nightkit’s chest, right over her thudding heart. "I give you the Celestial Sight. Your fur shall bear the weight of the living, and your light shall be their hope. Wake now, Nightkit. The stars have claimed you." Back in the nursery, Petalfur felt a sudden, violent jolt beneath her chin. Nightkit gasped, her tiny frame shuddering as air flooded back into her lungs. But as she inhaled, a brilliant, blinding white spark erupted on her chest fur. Feathercloud fell back, shielding her eyes. "StarClan save us..." Where Silverfrost had touched her, a single, perfectly round white dot now glowed with a steady, silver radiance. It was the first star on the violet map, and as Nightkit looked up at her mother, the tiny dot pulsed in perfect rhythm with the hearts of every cat in the room. The omen had not just survived. It had ignited. (end of chapter 1 >:3) First chapter: your here :D Nextchapter: Previous chapter: alas it is impossible :3
