Roleplay can be difficult sometimes, but in my experience the hardest part is knowing where and how to start. So I made a google doc a while ago with my application history, a roleplay tracker, ideas, etc. It would reveal too much personal info and is against the community guidelines to share the doc. So I put a stuff from there on here instead! I hope it helps! Please enjoy :D i. Creating a Character When you make a character ii. Personality Traits! These are helpful to give someone an idea of what the character acts like. The best characters have a balance of positive and negative, as faults make them relatable, as well as easier to RP as and with. Here are some examples, feel free to use them! Positive - Traits that make the character likable or a more positive presence. You can tell it's positive if someone would call you it as a compliment! [+] Cheerful, Friendly, Optimistic, Encouraging, Playful, Energetic, Confident, Sure-footed, Adaptable, Patient, Compassionate, Genuine, Determined, Selfless, Forgiving, Reliable, Sincere, Good-natured, Intelligent, Creative, Thoughtful, Amiable, Resourceful, Honest, Accountable, Affable, Balanced, Courageous, Visionary Neutral - Not inherently good or bad things about your character. You can tell it's neutral if it could affect themselves and others in positive and negative ways. [=] Talkative, Curious, Easily Excited, Imaginative, Influential, Competitive, Deceptive, Nonchalant, Stoic, Spontaneous, Direct, Ambitious, Reserved, Analytical, Placid, Controlled, Serious, Shy, Guarded, Opinionated, Calculating, Competent. Decisive, Fastidious, Idealistic, Practical, Diplomatic, Proactive, Outspoken, Dramatic, Gregarious, Laid-back Negative - Bad traits or habits that make life as this character or their interactions harder. You can tell it's negative if it's a reason someone doesn't like you. [-] Naive, Impulsive, Overwhelmed easily, Distractible, Overbearing, Overconfident, Grudging, Short-fused, Low confidence, Insecure, Apathetic, Manipulative, Judgmental, Indecisive, Vengeful, Withdrawn, Defensive, Greedy, Impatient, Hypocritical, Aimless, Depersonalized, Codependent, Hidebound If you don't know what one of these means feel free to ask in the comments! :D iii. Making a roleplay banner Creating a banner is pretty easy. All you really need is name, age, rank, clan, and pronouns, but you can add all kinds of extra things too! It's all up to you! A lot of people add quotes that are either based on their character's name or personality. For example, my character Trufflekit has a quote about mushrooms, because his name is Truffle, but Crowkit has one about his personality. Occasionally people will add something like their character's catchphrase too! Here are a few of my banners for reference: ₊°。˙₊ ⊹ Claim! ➺ Trufflekit ➺ 1 moon ➺ Kit ➺ MossClan ➺ AMAB, he/him/they ➺ Straight ➺ Truffle/Truff ➺ ``Mushrooms are kept in the dark because they grow better that way.`` ➺ Klinefelter Syndrome ➺ Scar Count: 0 ➺ Companion: None ➺ Typing….. ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ Claim! ➺ Crowkit ➺ 1 moon ➺ Kit ➺ CosmosClan ➺ AMAB, he/they ➺ ➺ Bi ➺ Crow/Cory ➺ ``Don't threaten me with a good time`` ➺ Dyspraxia, Bobtail ➺Scar Count: 0 ➺ Typing….. ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧ ₊°。˙₊ ⊹ Claim! ➺ Feather ➺ 1 star ➺ Jackling ➺ Nightmares ➺ AFAB, she/her ➺ Straight/Ace ➺ Prefers full name ➺ ``Praises for our past triumphs are as feathers to a dead bird.`` ➺ OCD ➺ Scar Count: 0 ➺ Typing..... ༄༄ ₊°。˙₊ ⊹ Claim! ➺ Silverpaw ➺ 9 moons ➺ Medicine Cat Apprentice ➺ PuddleClan ➺ AFAB, she/her ➺ Aroace ➺ Sil/Silver/Storm ➺ ``The storm gives us hope for the sun to come`` ➺ No disabilities ➺ Scar Count: 0 ➺ Typing….. iv. Types of roleplaying A lot of people are confused about how to actually roleplay. For guides who will explain it better than me, you can put "how to rp" in the search. But it's actually pretty simple. Here are the many kinds of roleplaying! There are a few ways to do roleplay. ORP = Open Role Play Type something in a comment! It can be as simple as, "[Name] walked in camp, looking for something to do." or as detailed as, "[name] sat at the entrance to the camp, drifting around in their own thoughts as they watched the sun dip gently below the horizon. A warm breeze ruffled her fur, and with it blew the scent of coming rain. They stretched, and wandered back through the entrance, finally settling in a patch of squishy moss. [name] was just starting to doze off when a sound behind them startled them awake." The length doesn't really matter, the main thing is that it's as open-ended as possible, so it's easy for someone to reply to when they don't know you. ~ CRP = Closed Role Play You talk to someone out of roleplay about doing a thread. This is commonly done with family, mentors, mates, etc. You already know who you are roleplaying with, Instead of putting "ORP" on your banner, you add "CRP with @.user" to the front. You still set the scene, but it's more specific to a certain char. ~ Cont. in n+c
GRP = Goal Roleplay You roleplay not with a specific person, but with a specific goal in mind. You might want to hunt or catch bugs, or train, etc. So you would put GRP on your banner, then state your goal. Examples: "GRP: Grinding Exp" or "GRP: Looking for a mate" ~ ET = Extend Thread If you reach the studio limit for a number of replies to a comment, this an extension of the thread. Just make sure you notify the person you were roleplaying with and put "ET w/ @.user" on your banner. ~ KRP = Key Roleplay This kind can only be started by a leader or someone on staff. If you ever see one of these make sure you read it, usually it is a ceremony or an important announcement. Depending on the type, sometimes everyone may reply, other times nobody should or only certain cats can. This will be indicated on the banner. Additionally they use a special banner, with info about the thread rather than then character. KRP ・ Purpose ・ Who can reply ・ Group(s) Involved ・ Season + TOD in-game ・ Other Each leader or representative replies with their usual banner. ~ SRP = Self Roleplay This one is pretty self-explanatory. It's where you roleplay by yourself. This commonly used to find kits if they are adopted, meet your companion (Gens), or just for your char to explore and collect their thoughts. Make sure not to do too many of these, though, because a big part of roleplaying is interacting with other users. v. RP Tips Here are a few things to keep in mind while roleplaying so it's more immersive and fun, not to mention it makes more sense. ╰▸ Remember you don't know everything! If the person you are roleplaying with doesn't say something out loud, don't interact as if you know what they are thinking! Example of keeping accurate perspective ★ #1: Catpelt wandered the forest until he came to a giant tree. He wanted to race up, but didn't see anyone around. #2: Kittyfur walked up to Catpelt. "Oh hi Catpelt, why are you staring at that tree?" #1: "Oh, hi Kittyfur, I just was thinking about racing up it, but didn't see anyone." Catpelt told his friend. #2: "Ok, I'll race you!" Kittyfur jumped up to grab the first branch as fast as he could. Non-example ☆ #1: Catpelt wandered the forest until he came to a giant tree. He wanted to race up, but didn't see anyone around. #2: Kittyfur walked up to Catpelt. "Hey Catpelt! Ready to race? One, two, three, go!" He leapt up to grab a branch. Here's where it can get confusing. Sometimes your cat can be intuitive, but they still can't read their mind. If your character has good deductive skills or knows something, they can voice the other character's thoughts. However, they never can think exactly the same things, and usually express it differently. Examples of being intuitive without omniscience ★ #1: Meowsong checked her herb store for supplies to redress the wound on Catpelt's shoulder. She hissed quietly at the meager scraps of cobweb; this wouldn't do! #2: Purrpaw walked in. "Hi Meowsong, what's wrong?" she asked, seeing her mentor's look of frustration. She saw Catpelt sitting patiently on the floor of the den, without a dressing on his shoulder. "Did we run out of cobwebs? I can take a few apprentices to get some more from the old tree by the border." 1: "Thanks Purrpaw, you think of everything," purred Meowsong, "You'll be a full medicine cat soon enough." Non-example ☆ 1: Meowsong walked out of the den, on the way to get cobwebs to dress Catpelt's wound. 2: Fishchomper followed the medicine cat out of camp. "Hi Meowsong, are you off anywhere important?" 1: "If you value the safety of Catpelt, certainly." Meowsong said, somewhat harshly. She knew she wasn't being very fair, but despite his usually good intentions Fishchomper always got in the way. vi. FAQ Q: When are we starting? A: As soon as we have all the high ranks and at least 8-10 cats per clan. Q: What does 1/2 or 1/3 mean on storage? A: It represents the number of characters you have. You get two slots for characters max, but if you are staff it is three. If you only have one, it will show up as 1/2. You can get another if you like, but your two characters cannot be best friends, mates, or family with each other, even by adoption. Q: Why can't I join my own litter? A: As stated in the previous question, you cannot be your own family. Even if it is an adopted litter, you don't want any scenarios where you are acting as both characters at once while roleplaying. It would be really confusing for you if you were two different cats having the same conversation, and besides, one of the main things roleplaying is for is interacting with other people, so you are basically talking to yourself at that point, and if you like that, please go write a warriors fanfic instead, you can play a all the chars at once.
