i dont know if i should give newfoundland the newfoundland tricolor cause it includes labrador, and the provincial flag represents both of them so im too lazy to write the rest even though i have everything so have newfoundland and yucutan (i couldve worded it better but whatever) Newfoundland: With the 1949 referendum going the other way, which resulted in 52% for independence rather than joining Canada, Newfoundland remains operating, albeit with some economic mishaps, but soon to be resolved. Newfoundland escapes the economic depression through an oil discovery, transforming economic viability, similar to Norway discovering the North Sea oil. Yucatán: The 1848 offer to America was accepted, with America viewing Yucatán as a strategic asset in the Caribbean. To prevent another bloody and exhausting war with Mexico, Yucatán operates itself under American sovereignty. In a sense, Yucatán can be paralleled to the American acquisition of the Philippines. Inspired by the Filipino thirst for autonomy, Yucatán's movements push towards independence, which is then resolved by the peaceful Treaty of Mérida, granting them statehood. Today, Yucatán is a financial tax haven or a center for biotech, using its unique biodiversity. Yucatán is a hub for tourism and ancient Maya sites, most of which are protected by UNESCO. Due to its past of U.S. sovereignty, U.S. Navy bases can still be spotted there, some still operating.
