An Heir to the Throne Princess Rose always dreamed of the day where she would inherit the throne and become Queen of the Snow kingdom. Like any educated feline would know, there were five kingdoms. First there was the Snow Kingdom, where Rose came from, (And obviously the best one.) The Forest Kingdom, the cats from there were weird, and apparently live in trees. The Grass Kingdom, they were pretty boring. The River Kingdom, they were known for being clever and shady. Then finally, the Midnight Kingdom, a cat from there, hasn't been seen in any other kingdom for a few years. Their queen even stopped showing up to the leader council, and that's kinda creepy. But anyway, history was never Rose's favorite, and she had a stupid princess lesson she had to go to. She took lessons with her mentor Kelp twice a week. It was things like, ‘how to walk properly’ and ‘the proper way to bow to guests’. Rose thought that being a princess would mean she could get to order people around, and go exploring in the secret treasury that no other cats are allowed in. Not spending an hour learning which fork you use to eat birds. They're all just forks, just choose one! Rose walked down the wide hallway. The walls were made of shiny stones that reflected the light coming in from the windows every which way. There were also lots of marble doors along the wall, and she could hear cats talking inside them. Even though the castle was very big, and Rose still got lost sometimes, she couldn't help but feel kinda trapped inside the stone walls. When she became queen, Rose had wanted to travel to the other kingdoms and explore the rest of the continent. Today Kelp had told her to meet in the garden for their lesson. Rose wasn't sure what they would possibly do in the garden since the castle was located in the mountains, and it was pretty hard to grow stuff. She kept walking down and noticed a door that was wide open. *That's strange*, she thought. *That door is usually always locked.* The door looked to lead to a spiraling staircase made of stone. Rose looked around, making sure no one could see her. *Maybe Kelp won’t mind if I’m a little late. * She stepped through the door and started to walk down the stairs. She tried to be quiet and not make a ruckus. The staircase seemed to go on forever, as it kept spiraling down and down. Rose eventually got to the bottom and saw a small hallway with multiple doors on each side. One of the doors was slightly cracked open, and she could hear voices talking- no, arguing inside the room. She probably wasn't supposed to be in this hallway, but she crept forward and peeked through the crack anyway. From what Rose could see, there was a dark gray tabby and a chestnut colored tom inside. They were sitting at a small wooden table, but the brown one was standing. “This is a waste of time. We have been searching for years, and still nothing!” He growled. “Calm down Cedar, we got orders from the king and queen, and it's our duty to fulfill them.” The gray cat stated, his fur flattening, like he was trying to keep calm. “She's probably long gone by now, and besides, Princess Rose is doing a fine job.” Cedar paced around the room. Rose pricked her ears up. Are they talking about me? “That kitten is important for the kingdom, and if you won't acknowledge that, you can leave!” The gray cat stood up, his fur bristling. “Fine by me.” Cedar walked toward the door. *Oh no. I need to get out of here.* Forgetting stealthy, Rose quickly scampered up the stairs, and closed the door behind her. Thoughts raced through her head. *What they're looking for, a kitten. But why would my parents be so worried about some random kitten? Unless… Do I have… a sister?*
Kelp had ended up canceling the lesson, due to some thing he had to go to. It was fine with Rose, as she needed some time to think. Rose had climbed up the (very tall) staircase that led to her room. She opened the door and sat down on her bed. The bed was made of moss and some soft plants, but she often found it kinda itchy anyway. *Ack, what's that?* Rose felt something pointy under her leg. She lifted it and found a small slip of paper. Meet me at the west balcony. It read. Rose immediately knew who it was from. Her best friend, Tourmaline, sometimes sent her notes. Rose stood back up and ran out the door, she hadn't seen Tourmaline in a while. Rose soon arrived at the west balcony. It was the biggest balcony in the castle, and has a nice view of the continent. Rose stepped into the fresh air and spotted a light brown and orange calico cat sitting at the railing. She turned around and noticed Rose there. “Rose! You came!” Tourmaline exclaimed, bouncing up to her. “Yeah I came, and can you be less ominous with your notes? Last time my mom found one and went into a panic because she thought someone was trying to kidnap me.” Tourmaline giggled at the remark. “Sorry, but that would have been fun to see.” “Anyway, what's up?” Rose asked, walking to the railing. “Oh, not much, I just wanted to see if you wanted to do something.” Tourmaline sighed. “Well, you know that door that's always closed that they won't let us in?” Rose started. “There are a million doors they won't let us in, Rose.” “True, but today one of them was open, and I went inside.” She continued to tell her friend about what she saw and heard in that room. When she finished, Tourmaline said, “Wow, now that is kinda ominous.” “I know, I think they might have been talking about another royal princess, like…” “-Your sister!” Tourmaline finished for her. “Ooo, this is so exciting! You have a long lost sister!” “Well, that's the theory.” Rose said. “I’m going to talk to my parents tonight and see if it's true.” “Okay, good luck!” Tourmaline nodded at Rose. “See you tomorrow.” Rose turned and started to leave, only to run into one of the castle guards. “Princess Rose, the queen has requested your presence at the leader council meeting.” He said, keeping a straight face. *Oh cool! Mom doesn't usually bring me to those meetings.* The leader council meeting happens every few months where the leaders of all five kingdoms meet together to exchange news or work out problems. It was kinda strange this time though, Rose thought the meeting wasn't until another month. “Oh, thanks. I shall head there.” Rose replied, nudging past the guard. “Do you wish for me to escort you to the room?” “Um, no thanks. I know the way.” Rose kept walking back down the hallway, not really wanting to continue talking to him. :Anyways, that is all for this story for now. If anyone is interested, I might make more parts:
