PU History Lesson: _____________________________________________ During the 21st century, with global temperatures rising, and further technological advancements, the great powers of the world scrambled over control over the fabled Northwest Passage. After WW3, communist China won this fight. But the Dominion, always looking for any tiny way it could get back at the PRC, expanded into the Arctic, with it's Arctic sea fleet famously being the first ever fleet of the navy of a historically landlocked nation, and it would become a thorn in the side of China's control of the seas. However, before WW4, an often forgotten war took place between the Dominion and the Cookies, who immigrated from Russia across the ice to north America. They would set out and declare war on the Dominion early on, and thus started one of the most one sided conflicts in history, where the Dominion tested its WW4 weapons on the cookie kingdom, bringing it to it's knees with a none-stop barrage of missiles, followed by occupation and the establishment of the "Cookie Empire" as a puppet state. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Alaska has its own interesting story. It barely managed to survive a war against Russia after gaining independence, and then fought a Winter war style conflict against China. So it is no surprise they agreed to ally with the Dominion during WW4, and both waged a masterful campaign against the PRC colonies on the west coast. And ever since, the Dominion and the Alaskan Republic have been on friendly terms, famously the Alaskan border was the first border to have a shield wall erected to keep it's people safe from the Dominion's radiation. The Dominion guaranteed Alaskan independence and neutrality, making it effectively the "Switzerland of the Pacific" _____________________________________________ Trouble in Paradise: _____________________________________________ But recently..... Problems have emerged, that threaten the alliance. Other nation states, hostile to the Dominion have constantly attempted to influence Alaska, with SOMBRA just now uncovering NASM infiltration alongside in Japan and the Philippines. And it has been suspected ever since the fall of Texas(proof of my earlier suspicious being in my foreshadowing earlier) Having a nation so weak to enemy infiltration and armies right next to the Dominion's capital is not ideal. And the humans of Alaska may not be friendly anymore, with the majority being refugees from the PRC colonies during WW4, which now dominate the Alaskan population in the south. In the eyes of the Dominion, Alaskan is a shadow of it's former glory, it has forgotten its past victories against China and Russia. It now just sits in a state of neutrality, while its enemies tear it apart from within. Its government has grown corrupt, and the native Alaskans barely even control their own nation. It is a scale model of how the ancient USA collapsed, and the Dominion has let them rot in this state for far too long... Denmark Moment: _____________________________________________ The Dominion quietly sets out to solve these issues. It quietly rushes into the Arctic nation to quickly occupy key positions along old British Colombia, while moving into the rest of Washington. Ships from Nova-alaska and Japan arrive in Alaska proper, seizing the Aleutian, and enter the Capital of Anchorage, to the sounds of cheers, as the Dominion proclaims that it will give Alaska their nation back from the southern lands. Within a day, the Alaskan Republic is taken into Dominion control, with the most fighting being near Seattle against army units that are descendents of the WW4 refugees. The mood is mixed, some view the Dominion as liberators, some as invaders, and of course those influenced by the enemy are against it, but almost powerless against it. The motion goes almost without resistance, until..... Empire...... _____________________________________________ The Dominion announced it would outright annex Alaska and the Cookies into it, as "Special Collectives" due to not being populated by Dominlings. Though not official, some have dubbed this the start of the "Orion Empire" because of the Dominion controlling much of the Orion belt. It is this move that divides people further. Some radical Alaskans(mainly in the north) welcome the idea with open arms as long as Alaska is treated fairly, while many believe they cannot trust the Dominion and must fight back(mainly in the south, where anti-Dominion feelings are strongest.... Again due to many of their ancestors being WW4 refugees) It is the start of a mini civil war and insurrection mainly in British Colombia.
