Erin Hunter for Warrior Cats Music - Iroh by Sonn STORY BELOW Chapter One “From this moment on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Shimmerpaw!” Shimmerpaw puffed out her chest, proud. I’m no Shimmerkit now! She looked pitifully at Strikekit and Grasskit. Just another moon, and I’ll be able to train with Strikekit! “Clan dismissed.” It was Shatteredstar, their leader. For now, unless evil Skybranch gains control again.. Shimmerpaw thought to herself. A few moons ago, RiverClan had a great fight with each other about who should be leader. Shatteredstar was their oldest leader, and Shimmerpaw thought she was a fine leader. Skybranch and a few other cats that were loyal to her protested against Shatteredstar, demanding Skybranch to succeed her and become leader. Some cats were loyal to Skybranch, some loyal to Shatteredstar, and some just didn’t want to have any say in this. They split into three Clans: ShatteredClan, the cats who were loyal to Shatteredstar, RisingClan, the cats who sided with Skybranch, and SplashClan, who went away from the territories to live on their own. The three Clans agreed to not mention this to any other Clans, and go to Gatherings like normal. Shimmerpaw was a part of ShatteredClan, along with the Clan’s only medicine cat, her kin, and a few other cats. “The other RiverTribe Clans have more power and cats than us, but we shall celebrate this special moment for these kits.” Shimmerpaw shuddered. She still wasn’t used to everycat of the former RiverClan using the term “RiverTribe”. It was so..unnatural to her. “We’re not kits anymore!” mewed Sleekpaw indignantly, looking at her leader. Shimmerpaw rolled her eyes. “Apprentices.” Shatteredstar corrected herself. “Anyway, gathering dismissed!” She lashed her tail as the cats dispersed. “Okay, Shimmerpaw. Ready to train?” Shimmerpaw whipped around to see a pale grey tabby she-cat looming above her. Her gleaming blue eyes were like frost, and Shimmerpaw couldn't help but feel a bit scared. “I’m going to take you on a tour to see the Territories.” It was Tallweed, her new mentor. Sleekpaw’s mentor was Cloudgaze, a fluffy white tom, and Applepaw’s mentor was Snakeflower, a very big black she-cat. “Well?” Tallweed looked annoyed, tail lashing. “Are you coming or not?” Shimmerpaw dipped her head, and trailed behind her. “Coming.” Tallweed was very intimidating, angry or not. She didn't say a word the whole trip until they reached the border with ShadowClan. “Here, mark this part of the border.” Tallweed nudged a bush and padded along a line that was marked by a boulder. “How?” Shimmerpaw tilted her head. Tallweed rolled her eyes and swept her tail to and fro along a small sapling. “Like that,” She mewed, “Taste it.” Shimmerpaw opened her mouth, and RiverClan scent wafted from the air to her tongue. “Oh.” She wrinkled her nose. “Ew. So fishy.” Tallweed purred, the first time she’d heard her do that. “What, are you a ThunderClan cat?” She blinked. “Ew, fish scent! Gross, you’re eating that?” She mimicked a ThunderClan cat. Shimmerpaw purred with her, and nudged her with her shoulder. “Hey! I don’t sound like that!” Tallweed instantly bounded across the clearing, taunting her. “Bet you can’t catch me!” Shimmerpaw squealed in delight and chased her around the border gleefully. Tallweed has such long legs! She lives up to her name, she thought as she struggled to catch up. In the end, the whole border was full of the scent. “We did a good job, didn’t we?” Tallweed was standing gracefully after the chase, whiskers twitching in amusement, not showing any signs of tiredness whatsoever. Shimmerpaw, on the other claw, was panting and barely able to stand. “You have to teach me how to run like that!” She gasped. Tallweed simply blinked in satisfaction. “Maybe one day.” They continued trudging along the border until they reached the gorge. The loud rumbling of the waterfall made Shimmerpaw reluctant to step towards it. Tallweed suddenly turned strict. “Do not go ahead. Always stay beside me. If you don’t, you will be in very big trouble.” She fixed a stern gaze on her, and Shimmerpaw blinked in acceptance. The waterfall is so big and scary! I feel like a grain of sand next to it.. Shimmerpaw pressed against Tallweed’s flank tightly as they walked towards it. The rumbling grew louder, like thunder. She remembered the days she’d hid under the juniper bush with Strikekit when a storm came, and how Sleekpaw teased her about being a scaredy-mouse after. “Loud, isn’t it?” Tallweed mewed. “You must never go here alone as an apprentice. It’s very dangerous, but I'm just showing you this so that you won’t run off the edge if you see it.” Shimmerpaw padded forward, and Tallweed instantly hissed. “Come back! I know it’s mesmerizing, but you have to be careful. Come on, I'll show you the rest of the Territories..”
