This a little* guide to how your character ages and changes ranks, as well as a brief** explanation of what you will do and learn during each rank. * "little". ha ** brief lol Before that, here are a few things regarding storage: - Don't worry about keeping track of your age, storage will do that for you. This just helps you know what to expect, and prevents "are we there yet" questions. - Everyone ages and is born on Saturdays, which is managed by storage, and ceremonies are done by leaders on Sundays, so please don't pester storage about it. - Sign up any time of the week, but we will only add people from the previous week. Each week, I will comment "Cutoff: [start week date] - [end week date]", and if you comment an application after that we will add you next week. Please don't bother us about it. - If your leader hasn't had your ceremony, it's not storage's fault! The leader has been notified, so either your character isn't ready, your leader isn't ready, or they just are busy and haven't been on. - In general, please be patient with everyone. ty :) 「kits.」 When your character is born, they are one moon instead of zero, because if you were born zero it would be very hard/boring to roleplay because you could not see or speak. You are a kit between one moon and six moons old. During life as a kit, you learn how life in this RP works, explore, and get to know the camp as well as figuring out how to roleplay with your character. As a kit, you age 0.5 moons for your first week (because you start at one moon instead of zero). Following your first week you age 1.5 moons every week, so you are a kit for four weeks. 「apprentices.」 You are apprenticed after you turn six moons old. As an apprentice, you get to start leaving the camp! You can go on patrols, explore the territory, make mistakes and friends, get crushes, and learn about honor and the warrior code. After six more moons, if you have all your credits, you become a warrior. If you are a medicine cat apprentice, you start at six moons too, but it varies much more when you become a full medicine cat. Just as you might become a warrior early for an act of heroism, you could become a medicine cat early. You could also take longer. It all depends on faith, wisdom, and healing expertise. When you are an apprentice, you age one moon per week, meaning you are (typically) an apprentice for six weeks. 「warriors.」 The usual time to become a warrior is 12 moons. During your time as a warrior, you get to apply everything you learned as an apprentice to your life! You can form stronger bonds, lead patrols, mentor an apprentice of your own, and settle down with a mate. When you are a warrior, you age four moons per week. When you reach 72 moons old you are senior warrior*. This means you are a warrior for 16 weeks. If you are a full medicine cat, you age four moons per week as well until your mentor dies or retires. *based on canon Warriors data :) 「senior warriors.」 You become a senior warrior at 80 moons. (That is about 6 years 8 months in human time btw) As a senior warrior, you are sort of in between a warrior and an elder. You can still do everything warriors can do, but you are older and more experienced. You are trusted by the clan and your leader more, and likely already have a family. You are respected, and are a lot closer to the cats you trained with. As a senior warrior, you age 5 moons per week. You have the option to become an elder once you are 100 moons old, and you have to retire if you have any major health issues as a senior warrior, or haven't retired when you reach the age of 175 moons. This means you have a maximum of 19 weeks as a senior warrior. If you are a medicine cat without a mentor still working, and have an apprentice or are old enough to have one, you are a "senior" medicine cat, and start aging five moons per week like a senior warrior. Since your work is much less active, you are forced to retire at 200 moons. 「elders.」 You become an elder anywhere between 100 and 175 moons old. As an elder, you are prioritized over the rest of the clan. You are fed, healed, and your nest is cleaned first. Your service to the clan earned you enough respect for the clan to care for you without you having to work anymore. You share stories with younger members of the clan, give advice, and relax during the final stretch of your life. During your time as an elder, you age five moons per week, just like senior warriors. This is just to make it easier since it varies so much when you are an elder. Ex: Cat A and Cat B are littermates, and both senior warriors. They are the same age, but Cat A retires at 120 moons old, and Cat B stays until he is forced to retire. If elders aged faster than senior warriors, Cat A would be older than her brother by the time he joins the elder's den! This could be even worse, like if this happened with mates, the age gap might be way bigger once both joined and it'd be really awk :| (cont. in n+c)
Ran out of letters, but that doesn't mean we're done! There are few other roles you might become, but aren't on every cat's timeline. None of them happen at a certain time in life, but I wanted to include them so it's easier for everyone. 「queen.」 Queen is not royalty; just the term for a cat expecting kits, or a female cat with kits under six moons old. To become a queen, all you need to do is be a biologically female warrior or senior warrior at least 24 moons old, with a biologically male mate. Queens don't have a special aging. When you are a queen, you age the same as your normal rank: four moons if you were a warrior, and five if you were a senior warrior. You must be together with your mate for at least six in-game months (about two irl weeks) before having kits. You return to warrior duties when your kits are apprenticed six moons after their birth. Unless... Some queens find that, after having their kits they prefer the life of a queen. They are allowed to stay in the nursery, but they are not quitting on their clan, don't worry! Permanent Queens (PQs) serve their clan by having many litters of kits to be warriors for the clan. They also help keep the dens clean and the camp in good shape, hunt if the warriors need help, and help first-time mothers with parenting and first time kitbirth. They just don't fight, and usually act like the parents of the whole freaking clan! 「leader.」 The leader is the cat in charge of the clan. To become a leader, you just have to be deputy when the previous leader dies. Leaders have a lot of responsibility! They are responsible for their clan's image, and when the leader messes up, the whole clan does. They make all the important decisions, and hold meetings for apprentice, warrior, and elder ceremonies. However, leaders are also blessed by Starclan and given 9 lives so they can defend their clan much longer. You must be at least 36 moons to become leader, and like in the series you have to have an apprentice at least once first. Leader aging is a little weird. They age the same as a warrior, four moons per week, but if they die, their age doesn't change. But it really isn't that different from regular cats, other than the nine lives. Once they are senior warrior age, they start aging five moons per week, and if they live to elder age, they can retire. Leaders do get a bit of leeway, though, and don't have forced retirement until 200 moons. 「deputy.」 The second-in-command, as well as the next leader in line. The deputy is a trusted advisor, chosen by the leader. Deputies primarily organize/lead patrols and help the leader make decisions. You must be at least 24 moons old to be chosen for deputy, however exceptions can be made. But you always have to have had at least one apprentice. If you haven't and your leader wants you to be deputy you MUST be mentor to the next kit who is apprenticed, unless they want to be a medicine cat. Deputies age just like regular warriors or senior warriors. There is no time frame for when they stop being deputy, they just become leader or die. When they become leader, they will choose a new deputy, and if they die, the leader picks another one. Hopefully the deputy wouldn't get too old and retire before they can become leader, that would be rather disappointing :< 「age map.」 This a full life, from birth to death.
