Chapter 1 I stepped off the school bus tingling with nerves as I breathed in the cold September air the noise of excited children blurred together to make a cacophony of voices, startling me I stepped backwards, hitting a tall, skinny boy with a mop of curly blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. He wore a khaki hat and on one of his ears he had a gold ring. He stared at me as if searching for something in my own dull brown eyes. Then seeming to find nothing he grunted and walked away. “RRRRRrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggg” the piercing intrusion of the bell disrupted my thoughts, stating 5 minutes to get to 1st period. When I stepped into the classroom the first thing I saw was the tall blonde boy I had bumped into looking lost and small in one of the seats, as if he was a new born baby born into a strange wild forest. He had looked so imposing and like he knew everything then. I tried to become as small as I could while creeping into my seat in case he still held a grudge against me for stepping into him. The last thing I wanted was an enemy, trust me people get enemies for the tiniest things. Lunch finally came. Soup sloshed in my bowl, pieces of veg floating in the swamp of a soup. “Not the most appealing lunch, huh.” Peering down at me with a grin on her face stood a girl not much older than me, her dark brown curls flopping over her shoulders. She wore a smart uniform that must have been recently ironed for no one could be that neat – there wasn’t a single crease anywhere. The grin started to slip off her face as I stared at her, taking in her appearance. She pulled the chair opposite to me out and sat down. “Um.. are you having lunch?” I managed to stutter. “Nah, I’m not hungry”. Her voice was rich and smooth; she was so confident. “My name’s Tasha by the way” “Alfie” I replied, “my name is Alfie”
