The Banished (Chapter Five)

Instructions

Chapter Five I tried looking around as I fell but only darkness seemed to respond to me. It seemed like I had been falling for at least a minute or perhaps maybe two minutes. I felt around trying to at least maybe feel the cold, rock wall of the ravine, but to no avail there was nothing. "It seems I might be in the horrifying space between the ravine walls" I thought to myself. There was one thing that I was able to feel though and that was the cold breeze pressing against me as I fell, the breeze was so cold that I began to shiver a bit from it. After a while I suddenly felt my body plunge into something that was colder than the wind I was experiencing for the past few minutes. This feeling was very unpleasant but then I noticed that I was slowly beginning to lose oxygen. I tried to go up but realizing I was swimming up instead, I had made the decision that I had fallen into some type of liquid, perhaps water, though i wasn't sure. I tired to swim up faster as I slowly began to realize that I was losing oxygen quickly, if i didn't reach the surface of, whatever this is, I wouldn't survive. I swam faster, and faster, and even faster but to no avail I could seem to feel myself reaching the surface. This seemed to be almost impossible to get past because I was also still unable to see anything, I was in complete darkness still. But right as I about about to succumb to the liquid and sink back down to where I possibly would never be seen again, I felt something grab me, an animal!? No that can be, that's not what it felt like. I could make out what it was but I struggled to get out of the grip of whatever had me, but I couldn't, it had me, I couldn't break free. I was then confused because I felt whatever had me pull me through the liquid, whatever it was didn't pull me down, but up, up to the surface, up from where I was moments away from giving up. But I was still losing oxygen and because of this I slowly began to slip into unconsciousness. I tried hard to fight back against it but I instead just used up what little oxygen I had left and I slipped into full unconsciousness. I thought this was it...I thought.....I was done for.....I thought.......I don't know......... I was awake, I don't know how or why or.. I stopped myself for a second from thinking these thoughts, my mind was racing and my head was hurting from it. I tried to look around again, but of course there was nothing but darkness still responding back to me, it felt like the darkness was somehow laughing in my face saying "what did you expect? there is nothing but me around" I would agree with the darkness if it was actually talking. There was one thing that I felt though, it had seemed that I had somehow made it to one of the sides of the cold rock face that was the ravine wall. "What happened?" I said to myself, only the sounds of the flowing liquid responded, I don't know why I expected it an actual response like one from a person or something else. I tried to stand up against the face of the wall, but that was when I felt it.. pain.. in my right leg, I fell back down to the ground screaming. "Ugh!" I screamed in pain, instantly clutching my leg with my hands, I felt around my leg trying to feel where the pain was coming from. I eventually found it, it was a cut in my leg, it was not that deep but bad enough to inflict pain onto me. The next thing I noticed was that my clothes were completely soaked from the liquid, this made me extremely cold, I started to shiver. "Great" I mumbled to myself "there's no way this could get any worse" I then heard something move in the liquid 'why did I have to say something foolish like that" I groaned to myself. The sound of whatever it was in the liquid started to get louder and louder "oh no it's getting closer" I thought to myself, I frantically tried to stand up over and over again but was only met with immense pain and falling back down onto the cold floor. "this is it" I thought to myself and I closed my eyes, waiting for it to end... waiting for the pain to cease... waiting for my irreversible demise to be finalized... my awaiting downfall to be settled... I waited and waited but nothing happened I then heard something I thought was ceased to be heard from me again... I heard.. a voice. I couldn't make out what the voice was saying for the first few seconds. I then realized it was saying the words "are you okay?", I couldn't see because my eyes were still closed, I opened my eyes, still seeing the darkness. The voice called out again those same three words "are you okay?", I tried to open my mouth to say yes but that's when it hit me, I had been focused on forcing myself to stand that I didn't even realize how much energy I was wasting, I was so weak I couldn't even speak, my mouth not making a sound before I collapsed to the ground still somehow conscious, I then felt something touch my shoulder and I flinched in shock because I wasn't expecting it...
