Here's an update on my horse, Leia! I posted a project in January about getting my own horse, Leia, who is a quarter horse mare. (https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1262598846/) It's been a couple months since I got her, so I figured I'd post an update (I'll take any excuse to share pictures of my horse-) Leia's been doing really well, and I've had so much fun with her! We had some pretty cold and gross weather in January, which made it hard to ride, especially since she'd never been in an indoor arena before and the wind and other noises were scary to her. But, it also meant that I could spend some good time doing groundwork with her, and as she's settled down she's become a lot more comfortable with the indoor ring. The weather is starting to warm up, so we've also been able to ride outside more. She has a lot of energy outside, so we're working on slowing down and relaxing! I've been able to have some really great moments with her. She's a lot of fun to ride! She is also pretty smart and focused, which makes it nice to do groundwork with her. I really want to teach her how to bow, so I'm working on developing some of her skills so we can get there. There was also a day recently where she was napping in the field when I came to get her, and she let me come over and snuggle with her while she was lying down! It was such a magical moment and really made the little horse girl inside of me happy. <3 It was Leia's birthday a week ago, and she turned 16! We celebrated by making her a "cake" out of oats, carrots, and molasses, and topping it with sprinkles. She also had a birthday girl ribbon to wear! I'm so excited to spend more time with her in the nice weather. I really want to see what she looks like when she sheds out her winter coat (you can already see how much her face is lightening up!), and I want to try riding her bareback! I also just want to spend more time with her, and keep developing our bond and skills.
