I. THE TOOLS OF THE TRADE Tailoring in the North requires different tools than blacksmithing. Precision is key; a loose stitch lets in the cold, and a tight stitch tears the hide. 1. The Bone Needle Description: A slender, sharp splinter of bone (often from a bird or small game) with an eye drilled in the end. Use: Stitching fine furs and leather. 2. The Hide Scraper Description: A flat, sharp stone or metal fragment with a handle. Use: Removing fat and flesh from hides to prepare them for tanning. 3. The Stretching Frame Description: A wooden frame used to dry hides tight. Use: Prevents leather from shrinking and warping as it dries. 4. The Cutting Shears Description: Two sharp stones or metal shards riveted together. Use: Cutting thick fur and leather cleanly. II. APPAREL BLUEPRINTS Blueprint A: The "Deep-Walk" Boot Use: Protects paws from frostbite and provides traction on ice. Materials: Waterproof leather (Seal hide), thick fur (Hare/Wolf), soft moss, Glue-Resin. Process: Sole: Cut the Seal hide into a rough oval shape. Coat the bottom in Glue-Resin and roll it in sand/grit. Let it harden (creates grip). Insulation: Line the inside with soft moss and Hare fur. This wicks sweat away from the paw pads. Upper: Stitch the fur and leather around the leg. Secure tightly with leather straps to keep snow out. Blueprint B: The "Sky-Mitt" (Wing Gloves) Use: Covers the wing membrane and tips to prevent freezing during flight or sleep. Essential for non-fire resistant Veylren. Materials: Light leather (Grouse or thin Deer hide), Sinew. Process: Pattern: Measure the wing from the "wrist" to the tip. Cut the leather slightly larger to allow for air insulation. Attachment: Create a "sleeve" that slides over the wing bone. Secure it with a strap at the shoulder or wrist. Function: Must be loose. If it presses against the membrane, it restricts flight and causes frostbite faster. Blueprint C: The Snow-Goggles Use: Prevents "White-Out Blindness" caused by the sun reflecting off the ice. Materials: A flat piece of wood or bone, Sinew. Process: Carving: Carve a strip of wood/bone to fit across the eyes. Slits: Cut two narrow, horizontal slits for the eyes. These should be just wide enough to see through. Strap: Attach sinew straps to go around the ears or head. Effect: The slits reduce the amount of light entering the eye, acting like a natural squint. Blueprint D: The "Huddle-Sack" (Sleeping Bag) Use: A portable bedroll that retains body heat. Materials: Two large pelts (Muskox or Strider), waterproof hide (for the bottom). Process: Layering: Lay the furs fur-side down. Place the waterproof hide on the very bottom. Stitching: Sew the edges together, leaving the top open. Closure: Attach bone toggles at the top to roll it shut. Tip: If possible, line the inside with "Fire-Vein Creeper" leaves (from the Medic) for extra warmth. Blueprint E: The "Cold-Snout" Mask Use: Warms the air before it enters the lungs/Air Sacs. Prevents Hypothermia from breathing freezing air. Materials: Thick fur, leather straps. Process: Cut: Cut a triangle of fur large enough to cover the nose and mouth. Vent: Poke small holes near the nostrils for breathing. Secure: Strap around the ears or back of the head. Function: The fur traps heat from exhaling, warming the next breath. III. ADVANCED BLUEPRINTS Blueprint F: The "Ice-Stride" Crampons Use: Claws that strap onto boots to grip sheer ice. Materials: Sharp animal claws (Bear/Wolf) or metal spikes, leather cord. Process: Binding: Lash the claws/spikes to a leather sole. Strapping: Create a harness that fits over the "Deep-Walk" Boot. Warning: Do not wear these inside tents (they tear the floor). Blueprint G: The Thermal Flight-Suit Use: A full-body under-layer for high-altitude scouts. Materials: Multiple layers of thin, soft leather (Marmot/Hare), Spider-Silk (if available) or fine Sinew. Process: Tailoring: Must be skin-tight to not catch the wind. Sealing: All seams must be double-stitched and coated in Resin to block wind.
