IV. AQUATIC TRAPS Blueprint G: The "Mouth" Fish Trap Use: Catching fish in shallow streams or tidal pools. Materials: Flexible willow branches or reeds, cordage. Process: Weaving: Weave a cone-shaped basket from the branches. Open at the wide end, narrow at the tip. Placement: Place the basket in the stream with the wide mouth facing upstream. Mechanic: Fish swim in with the current. The narrow end is too small for them to turn around and exit. V. DEFENSIVE TRAPS For protecting the camp from Wolves or Ice-Scratchers. Blueprint H: The Trip-Alarm Use: Wakes the camp watch, scares off timid scavengers. Materials: Cordage, noisy objects (empty tins, hollow bones, shells). Process: Line: Stretch a line of cordage around the perimeter of the camp at ankle height. Noise: Tie the noisy objects to the line. Mechanic: If an animal walks through, the line shakes, rattling the bones/tins. Blueprint I: The "Snap-Stick" Use: A tension-based whip trap for perimeter defense. Materials: A bent sapling, cordage, a spiked club. Process: Setup: Similar to the Spring-Snare, but instead of a noose, the tension pulls a spiked club. Trigger: A tripwire. Mechanic: When the tripwire is hit, the sapling releases, swinging the club violently at knee-height.
