THE ETERNAL AURORA Teachings of the Ancestors I. THE GREAT SILENCE Listen well, young one. When the heart stops and the breath fades, we do not end. The body is merely ice and bone; it melts away. But the Spark—the Echo that lives within the mind—cannot be extinguished so easily. We believe that when a Veyla dies, their spirit rises. It joins the great ribbon of color that dances across the Northern sky. We call this The Eternal Aurora. It is not a place of ghosts. It is a place of memory. It is where the Architect dwells, where the Heroes of the Rebellion watch over us, and where the flame of our Ancestors burns forever. II. THE THREE PATHS Not all souls reach the lights. The journey from the earth to the sky is treacherous. 1. The Path of the Ascended Who walks it: The brave, the loved, and those who fall surrounded by their Pack. The Journey: When they die, the "Soul Bridge" (the tether that binds us to our kin) pulls them upward. They rise as a streak of light, merging with the Aurora. The Afterlife: They become part of the Eternal Aurora. They watch over us. They whisper guidance on the wind. When you feel a sudden warm breeze in a blizzard, that is an Ancestor standing beside you. 2. The Path of the Fading Who walks it: Those who die alone, in terror, or with a heart full of bitterness. The Journey: Without the anchor of love or the strength of will, their Spark drifts. It dissolves into the white noise of the world. The Fate: They become "The Lost." They do not suffer, but they do not exist. They return to the static of the universe, forgotten. 3. The Path of the Frozen (The Silent Snow) Who walks it: The traitors. The murderors. Those who broke the Code of the Pack. The Journey: Their spark is heavy with guilt. It cannot rise. It sinks into the permafrost. The Fate: They are trapped in the ice—the "Cold Silence." They are conscious, but alone in the dark, frozen for eternity. It is said that if you press your ear to the deep ice, you can hear them screaming. III. THE SACRIFICE There is a special honor for those who give their life for another. This is the Noble Ascension. When a Veylren performs the "Sacrifice Play"—giving their life so the Pack may escape—their ascent is instant. They do not need a bridge of love to pull them up; their own courage rockets them into the sky. It is believed that these souls become "The Guardians." They are the brightest points in the Aurora. They do not just watch; they intervene. They guide lost scouts and strengthen tired wings. IV. THE TWIN'S BOND For the twins of our kind, death is not a wall. Because they share a single soul split in two, if one dies, the other carries the spark. The dead twin does not immediately join the Aurora. They reside within the survivor, a voice in the back of the mind, guiding them. Only when the second twin dies do they ascend together, merging into a singular, brilliant star. V. COMMUNION We do not have temples. We have the Sky. The Gaze: When the night is darkest, look up. If the lights are dancing, the Ancestors are pleased. If the lights are dim, they are mourning. The Dream: Those with high Aurora can close their eyes and "walk" among the lights. They can speak to the dead. But be warned: the dead speak in riddles. They see the "Maybe," not the "Now." The Vigil: When a Veylren falls, we do not bury them in the ground. We burn them. Fire releases the spirit from the frozen flesh. The smoke carries the Spark upward to meet the Aurora. To bury a body in the ice is to risk trapping them in the "Silent Snow." PRAYER OF THE DEPARTING: "May your wings find the wind. May your spark find the sky. Burn bright, fly high. We will meet again in the Aurora."
