Vance climbed those stubborn wired fences and jumped down in the brash mud, all to get to a concrete bridge that carried dreams and hopes. With packed bags and hope, he waited for his brother—who never even left. A green forest led to a hill, or so he thought; maybe he was going crazy. Vance stared at the empty space beneath the bridge, his heart pounding with disappointment and confusion. As he trudged toward the green forest, his fingers brushed against a patch of leaves—what he thought was poison ivy—but suddenly, a strange tingling raced up his arm, and his mind felt sharper, almost electric. Months passed, and the forest became his world, but the details of Julian’s face started to blur, slipping away like mist. Vance clung to the memory, fighting to remember, but every day it grew harder. Grief became a choice, and he chose to hold on, even as it hurt. Did I mention that planned escapes are very messy?
