Power information: She willingly or unwillingly turns into a cat when the moon comes out. Since the shift is tied to the moon, she has a "curfew." This makes her even more shy about making plans. "Sorry, I can't do dinner" is her constant excuse, making people think she's mysterious or just flaky. While everyone else is sleeping, Starlight is at her most fierce and smart. At night, she can roam the city or her neighborhood. She hears the dreams and late-night intrusive thoughts of everyone around her. This is where her cynical view of people comes from—she sees what they are like when they think no one is watching. She might spend her nights as a cat watching over her friends' houses. If she "hears" a friend having a nightmare or feeling lonely, she’ll scratch at their window to be let in for a snuggle. She has strict rules for herself to keep her secret: 1. Never be outside 10 minutes before sunset. 2. Never let a human see the "sparkle" in her cat eyes. 3. Always have a backup "human" outfit stashed in a hollow tree or alleyway. In her human form during the day, she’s known as the smart, stern girl who never stays for "one more drink" or a late-night study session. People might think she’s "too cool" for them, but really she’s just terrified of turning into a cat in the middle of a conversation. Since she has no human friends to talk to, she pours all her loving and kind energy into being a "neighborhood cat." She has a favorite elderly neighbor she visits every night as a cat. The neighbor thinks Starlight is just a stray, but Starlight listens to the neighbor's lonely thoughts and stays to comfort them. Her buddy: Comet(who can turn into a golden retriever) His Personality: Unlike Starlight’s shy and clever nature, he’s probably loud, trusting, and a bit goofy. While she’s reading minds and finding secrets, he’s just happy to be there. How They Met (The "Aha!" Moment) The Mind Read: Starlight was in cat form, acting fierce and stern, when she "heard" a dog’s thoughts... and they weren't "dog" thoughts. They were human thoughts like, "Oh boy, a trash can! Wait, no, I'm a human. I shouldn't—ooh, a tennis ball!" The Secret Bond: Since they both share the "Moon-Bound" curse, they are the only two people who truly "get" each other. He’s the first person she can actually be loving and funny with without hiding. She spends half her time being stern with him. "Stop wagging your tail, we're supposed to be invisible!" while he just licks her ear. The "Night Shift" Team Starlight (The Black Cat): She’s the clever and stern leader. She uses her mind-reading to navigate the city, avoiding "bad" people and finding the best spots to hide. Comet (The Golden Retriever): He’s the loving and fierce (only when he needs to be) muscle. While Starlight is small and stealthy, Comet is a big, friendly goofball who probably gets them into trouble by trying to play with every "human" he sees. Rival: Vane Vane is a Collector. He’s someone who knows about "the gifted" and wants to use Starlight as his ultimate spy. If he can control her, he can know every secret, every password, and every lie in the city. he can "Anchor" things. He can’t transform, but he can cast shadows that "trap" people in place. It’s the perfect counter to a fast cat and a running dog. He doesn't want to hurt Starlight; he wants to put her in a "gilded cage" (a literal high-tech room) where she has to read minds for him all day. tries to corner Starlight during the "Sunset Transition." That’s when she’s at her most vulnerable—switching from human to cat. He waits for that moment of weakness to strike. This is where Comet shines. Even if Vane traps Starlight in a shadow-anchor, Comet’s fierce loyalty kicks in. A Golden Retriever might look friendly, but a 70lb dog protecting his best friend is a nightmare for a villain. Starlight is too stern to admit she needs help, so she’ll be growling/hissing at Vane, only for Comet to bowl the guy over like a fuzzy wrecking ball. Afterward, Starlight will just lick her paw and act like she had it under control. He knows exactly when the sun sets and the moon rises. He’s waiting for the one night where they are separated, or the one night where Starlight is too exhausted to fight back. Sometimes he might leave "gifts" on their rooftop—a saucer of milk for her or a tennis ball for Comet—just to let them know: "I see you. I know who you are." Vane once tried to grab Starlight right as she was shrinking into a cat. He didn't count on Comet—who was already a 70lb Golden Retriever—launching himself at Vane’s chest. Vane walked away with a ripped suit and a deep grudge. Now, he stays further back, using high-tech thermal cameras to track their "heat signatures" through the city streets.
