CH 6 Sophie Sophie tried not to panic as the monster came into view. It was a giant animal, not too much unlike Lady Gisela’s Gorogadons (guess i think this is accurate, but idkkkk im so sorry if its not, but based on my memory- which i admit can be poor- and my chimera research, they are slightly similar looking?? I think??). “Chimera!” the black-haired boy, Percy, shouted, quickly leaping into action, movements almost synchronized with the blond girl, Annabeth. Keefe and I watched for a few seconds, momentarily shocked at how clear their training was. They easily stayed out of the path of the snake's tail and the monster’s giant fangs. A sudden blast of heat from the monster's mouth shocked her out of her moment of awe, and she immediately began to think of how she could help. She didn’t know much about these monsters, just that they were Greek, a hybrid of creatures, and breathed fire. She wished Marella were there. Her thoughts seemed heavy, though, and she was getting a headache she knew hadn’t been there before. “Foster!” Keefe said, interrupting her thoughts, and she turned. “I can get a reading of emotion from this guy, and he seems scared. I don’t think he’s behind his own attack.” She gasped as the beast turned, trying to get Percy after he blasted her with water from a fountain. She hadn’t realized he had Hydrokinetic powers, and couldn’t believe they weren't elves. They both had the powers, or at least fighting skills, in Annabeth’s case. But that wasn't what had made her gasp. There, hidden mostly beneath the cimera's fur, was a collar. And where a tag should be was a small piece of metal, almost looking like a broken circlet. A circlet she recognized. It was the same one that she had been forced to wear not so long ago, dubbed the Ability Restricter. It was attached to the collar, along with a small Leaping Crystal fastened by a pendant cap (appreciate that vocab people i spent way too long looking for what those things were called bc i saw them in a random aesthetic picture like a month ago and i was imagining exactly that ToT). There was obviously some sort of Elvin force at work here. She turned to Keefe, who was waiting for her, but clearly wanted to help in some way to stop the chimera. “Look on his collar,” she started, “someone who knows Elvin technology must have gotten hold of a chimera. They have, like, half my old Ability Restricter, which shouldn't work now, but I have a splitting headache, and my thoughts are foggy, so it must still have some power. Also, there's a leaping crystal, so someone probably leaped it here.” Keefe’s eyes widened. “And just dropped it off? No wonder he’s causing trouble; he didn't want to be here, and he still looks young. I think I read about chimeras in Father of the Year’s books, which he had in his never-ending library. This one seems pretty small, like a kid.” “If we just capture it and get its collar, we might be able to get more information about where it came from.” “Sounds like a plan.” Sophie and Keefe ran out to the chimera, using their levitating powers to try to suspend him in the air. Thanks to the ability restrictor, however, they kept losing grip of him, unable to get him fully off the ground. “What are you guys doing?” Annabeth said, breathing hard, suddenly at Sophie’s side. “We are trying to get him off the ground.” “What? Actually, never mind, we'll talk when we aren’t about to be roasted by an oversized lap-dog. What can we do to help?” “You see that half-crown thing on his collar? Destroy it, but don't kill the chimera.” “Are you sure? He's about to destroy the park.” “We have a plan, I promise, please trust us. I know you just met us, and I would be wary too, but there’s no time to explain.” “Alright,” Annabeth said after a second’s hesitation. “I’ll see what we can do,” before running off. A short time later, the chimera's collar was being sawed off from behind, with Annabeth on its back, and Percy running out in front, distracting the chimera with taunts, quick strikes, and blasts of water. “Wow,” Keefe whispered, coming over to her, “I wonder where they got their training. Ro would be jealous.” Annabeth made quick work of the collar, grabbed the circlet, and looked around for a way to destroy it. When she vigorously hit her dagger against it, to no effect, she ran toward Percy instead, most likely hoping he had a way to break it. However, when the circlet piece had been removed from the collar, Sophie’s head had cleared immidietly. The collar must have had some sort of enhancing technology in it, so once the circlet was off, it was useless against her powers. Together her and Keefe lifted the chimera into the air, suspending it, as it made noises of distress. Keefe and Sophie ran out to Annabeth and Percy as fast as they could while still concentrating to keep him up. (cont in notes and credits bc apperently its too long T-T)
“I have an idea,” Annabeth said, once they got over to them. “I don’t know what powers or technology are helping you do that, but it seems to be taxing you, so we should hurry.” “If it helps, he’s pretty scared. I don’t think hurting us is really his goal here,” Cut in Keefe. Annabeth blinked. “Actually, yeah thats really helpful. If we could find a way to let him know we don't want to hurt him, then we could try to find out where he came from when he is calmer.” “I could try transmitting, I guess. It’s only ever worked on Silveny, an alicorn,” she added for Percy and Annabeth’s benefit, “but it might work. I would have to concentrate on that instead, though, and you would have to hold the chimera by yourself.” “I can try, Foster, but I’m not sure how much time I can buy you,” said Keefe warily “Alright,” Sophie said, slowly releasing her concentration on the levitation, and trying to find her way into the cimera's mind. /Friends/ she thought, trying to broadcast it to the chimera. /Nice. Friends./ Trying to get into the chimera's mind was like working through a huge, sticky spider net. She would think she had made progress, but had just gotten tangled, and she was pulling at strings, but kept losing grip. Working her way through it was tiring, but she knew Keefe couldn’t hold the chimera much longer. Suddenly, the web disappeared. Not slowly, but all at once. She opened her eyes and saw why. The chimera was gone. In his place were 2 carving knives, that were most likly the cause of his dissapperence, and the remainder of the collar. “So,” said a voice. "I suppose I shouldn’t have used the young one. Much too weak.” also guys, not to be that girl, but if you liked it, pls remember to <3 and star bc a lot of people are on the ping list for this, but arnt <3ing and staring, and that rlly is a nice way to support me. tysm! !COMMENT "PING," AND I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN CH 7 IS OUT!
