Chapter 1 At age 12, I was at least a bit sensible. Certainly more sensible than 9 year old Leyliene. Leyliene is an airhead, random, crazy, silly, and DEFINITELY weird. Also, she killed my 2 pet birds 5 years ago. Well, not directly. She let them out of there cages-they're probably dead now. But no matter what, Leyliene is always Leyliene. Over the last few years, I have gotten the 2 best birds ever-Cricket and Tinsel, but then I got Sparky and Goro, then Limo and Lima. Still. Leyliene let them all out. It's just not fair! Plus, my good ol' papa, who kept me from getting to sad-is now halfway across Norway, married to Sabri Lakes. They've got 2 kids, Melli and Marri. Lucky them. I'm still mad at him for dumping our family for stupid Sabri Lakes and her pink nose stud. Ugh. Now, mama, Leyliene, and me live in a rundown apartment, floor 7, room 38. John Lewis Road. Mokik, Alabama. Our zip code is 20489. You probably don't care. You know what. I only care that I'm mad at papa for selling our nice blue brick house in Mississippi so he could pay for Sabri and his wedding-that we weren't invited to by the way. I use to love papa, but now he downright sucks. Leaving us in a raggedy town, away from our cat, Amber, and my friend, Cammi. But most of all, I'm mad at him for loving a Sabri more than mama, loving adopted 11 year old Melli more than me, and even for loving his new baby, 3 month old Marri, more than Leyliene. What's so special about them anyway? I'll never understand.
