Random Fun Vaquita Fact: Did you know 'Vaquita' means 'Little Cow' in Spanish? they got this name because of the dark rings around their eyes and their small size! Why are Vaquitas endangered? The vaquita is the rarest marine mammal in the world, with only about 10 individuals left. They live only in a small area in the Gulf of California, Mexico. Their biggest threat is gillnets—huge, invisible fishing nets. They get tangled in these nets meant for a fish called the Totoaba and accidentally drown. How to Help: Spread the Word: Most people have never heard of a vaquita! Tell your friends and family. Sustainable Seafood: Only eat fish that is caught in ways that don't hurt other animals. Support Protection: Groups like the Porpoise Conservation Society and WWF are working to remove illegal nets from their home.
