Why I don't support Scratch AI: I have been on Scratch for only a year, and Scratch is basically my favorite place to go on my Chromebook. It’s where I am learning to code, share and make my art, and met friends who like what I like! But lately, I’m really worried about the new talk about adding AI (artificial intelligence) to the site. I think the Scratch Team should stop and reconsider adding generative AI, because it changes what makes Scratch special. ( @stingrays88 likes :) ) First of all, Scratch is all about learning to code through trial and error ( yeah!!! - @stingrays88 ). I'm not really the best coder but when my sister spends hours trying to make a platformer character jump correctly, it looks and feels amazing when she finally fixes it! If people can just ask an AI to "fix my bug," they won't learn anything. I would probably get lazy ( yess! They will!! ), and won't get the opportunity to learn how to code! It’s like having someone else do my math homework—I might get the right answer, but my brain doesn't learn how to do it. (calculators not really count though) Secondly, If I can just type "make a purple cat dancing" into a box, that’s not my art, it’s a robot's art. The fun of Scratch is drawing a weird, messy sprite and being proud that I made it. AI makes everything look the same, and it’s not really our work anymore. Lastly, I’m worried about safety and privacy. Using AI to generate images or code might expose us to bad stuff or things that aren't true, which is dangerous for younger kids. Plus, it just feels weird to have a robot looking at all our projects to learn how to do its own job, especially on a site made for kids like me. I know the Scratch Team wants to make new, cool stuff, but AI isn't the answer for a place designed for learning and safety. Please focus on making the editor better, improving the community, and keeping Scratch a human-powered place. Let’s keep Scratch a place where we create, not a place where bots create for us. Thank you for reading this, - @Peachleaf13 ( with a few notes from @stingrays88 ) :) :D
