"Honeysuckle" You were honeysuckle on the vine, But I thought you were a bottle of wine I thought love needed time to grow and age I thought love was something that you could gauge You said “Stay awhile,” but I already knew That “a while” wasn’t forever, just a few I was greedy, and a while simply wasn’t enough, So I left before staying became tough. You were honeysuckle on the vine, On a high trellis I wasn’t able to climb And distance cannot somehow make more fond An already easily forgotten bond You said “Stay awhile,” and I should have stayed When I still had the better end of the trade It was better to spend with you just another hour Than to sacrifice nectar by throwing away the flower You were honeysuckle on the vine And I was foolish to think that you could ever be mine
