~Premise: The setting would be a classic medieval style fantasy, similar to the kingdom rps people make. The main difference in this one is that it would have set mechanics for things like skill, trading and ageing, the type you'd usually see in WCRP like bloodlines, generations, TSS, TFCRP... It would follow four rival kingdoms who are able to interact for the first time in a centaury. ~Lore: The Sundered Lands have always been called so, for the dividing stretch of sea between the North and South continents. Now the name has taken on a new meaning. The kingdoms fought for years, betraying each other time and time again, pushing borders back and forth, battle after battle after futile battle. Time and time again, peace was called for. Time and time again the plea was ignored. Until four Mages, one from each kingdom, found a path that could not be ignored. Each travelled to their homeland's capitol, then prepared in secret a spell. A spell known as the Sundering. Four barriers appeared, one around each kingdom, trapping the citizens inside. At long last, the fighting was over. But the thing about magic is it doesn't last forever, and now, a hundred years having past, the barriers falter and the kingdoms are freed. ~Details: The four kingdoms are... Illidale, The Boar. Their capitol is a city found in the tree-tops of a dense woodland. The buildings are ingeniously structured to balance on tree branches, with bridges connecting the structures. They are ruled by a single leader, who issues an 'impossible task' upon being appointed. The first person to complete this earns the right to become the next ruler. Arilloft, The Griffin (and my personal favourite). A beautiful city nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains. The buildings stretch into tunnels dug deep into the stone. Ruled by a council known as the 'Arkanum' ("ark-ah-numb") and made up of the kingdoms best scholars, who move up and down it's ranks by challenging each other to intellectual debates. Rillin, The Serpent. Rillin is made up of a collection of settlements scattered across a stretch of islands. Since the Sundering, they are confined to the largest, an island known as Trin. They follow a simple monarchy where each ruler's eldest child is the next to lead. Other royal family members have seats as advisors, but the leading monarch has absolute power. And lastly Galdian, The Unicorn. Their land was once one of fields and hills stretching out for miles, but is now confined to a single city and it's surrounding farms. The buildings are made of large stone bricks and almost every wall features a beautiful mural. It is ruled by five noble houses. New rulers must take one child from each of these to raise as apprentices. After a year's time they choose one to take their place as heir, and the others are given places as council members with lesser power. There would be a range of roles available, these are my current thoughts: Authority: Counsel/ruler/royal positions, differs for each kingdom. Explained in above sections. With the exception of the Arkanum these would mainly be determined by in-rp decisions and plots instead of character skills, but the people with characters in these positions would have control over decisions which influence the larger plot as well as individual kingdoms statuses. Soldiers: Self-explanatory. The inner workings of each army would be determined by it's leaders. Relies mainly on the fighting skill category. Scholars: Scholars have an interesting role in this RP. I want the Sundered Land's history to be recorded, but in a way that gives multiple perspectives, where accounts sometimes contradict each other or have bias, and you need to look at multiple accounts to fully understand things. Relies mainly on the knowledge skillset. Performer: Musicians, storytellers, dancers, actors... Earning money from this role alone would be hard, and deliberately so. Relies mainly on the performance skillset. Sailors: Much of the lands are separated by water, so transport via boat becomes essential. Working as a ferryman is a nice way to earn a living. Relies mainly on the sailing skill. Craftsman: Covers jobs such as artists, bakers, blacksmiths, armourers, ship makers, seamstresses... Anyone who creates something to be sold. Their wares may serve a purpose (eg weapons add points when their wielder rolls to fight) or they could just be decorative accessories. Relies mainly on the craftsmanship skillset. Merchants: Similar to craftsmen, only they just sell things instead of making them. Could work from a travelling wagon instead of a shop. Criminals: You only gain official criminal status after being seen committing a crime. Relies on stealth rolls, and risks capture or imprisonment. You are not limited to these roles, they just serve as basic pathway options.
~Mechanics: +Skill based statistics with the categories fighting, knowledge, physical, craftsmanship, performance and a miscellaneous section. +You have an overall score for each section, but there are also skills under each one. (eg. different weapons under fighting, speed and endurance under physical...) +Trainable animals, mostly mounts. Would include a few magic species designed specifically for the RP, but also any real creature that would be plausibly encountered and tamed. +Trading would be a large part of the RP. I have a system in mind where people can design outfits/weapons/anything to trade IRP. +Mechanics for travel and location, to introduce roles like sailor or messenger. +Kingdom scale mechanics as well, including tracked wealth and military strength. +Creating your own groups is encouraged, and if any of these are able to take control over areas they can establish themself as a new kingdom. +One year passes every week, which I think should be a good speed to keep things moving while allowing time for events. ((EDIT: changed to 2 weeks, or possibly slower)) +Ideally people would be allowed one character at a time, but considering the amount of slots that need filling it would more likely be one per kingdom or one per role. Please everyone let me know if you would be interested in this, or ask for a ping when/if it opens. Which kingdoms/roles are you most interested in? Also feedback/suggestions are very welcome! I thrive on constructive criticism.
