When they were finally dismissed from history, Autumn packed up her things into her neck pouch, then rushed out of the school building. “Bye Silverfish!” She yelled as she ran past her friend. Then she spread her four wings and flew up to the Yellowjacket Hive garden, which overlooked the dangerous Poison Jungle. When she arrived, she caught sight of familiar yellow and black scales by the fountain, and soared down towards the dragon waiting. “Autumn!” Horntail yelled as she crashed into him, and the two dragons laughed. I wish I could freeze this moment forever, she thought wistfully. “Look what I brought! Sugar wasps!” He produced a box of candies from his bag. “Aww, thanks, you ant-brain,” Autumn giggled as she curled up next to Horntail and opened the box. “What’s the occasion?” “Do I need a reason?” Horntail asked mischievously. Autumn shrugged and grinned at him. “I hope we get to see each other after we graduate,” she sighed. “We will,” Horntail promised her, taking her talon in his. “I’ll make sure of that.” They sat together quietly, watching the sun set, the only sound coming from the water rushing down the fountain. Autumn felt Horntail twine his tail around hers, and she breathed deeply, enjoying the moment. “I have to go home now, but I’ll see you tomorrow?” Autumn untangled herself from Horntail. He nodded, and they walked downstairs together to their neighborhood, where they split up. Smiling, Autumn watched him disappear down a pathway, then she turned around and headed to her own home. My life is actually pretty great, she thought to herself. The only thing that’ll make it even better is seeing my siblings again. I hope their Metamorphosis is doing well.
