Regarding Cupcakes An informative/argumentative essay It is common belief to many that the dinosaurs were tragically exterminated by a destructive asteroid, which has been dubbed “the Asteroid” by some. However, one can most definitely state that a singular chaotic space collision with a giant rock would not provide the conditions for the immediate wipeout of reptilian life on Earth, while maintaining the very existence of the planet. For this reason, a rather specific and more direct cause must have achieved this end. To this, many scientists have long since determined that factors such as continuous dust storms disrupting the food chain and the ability of planet Earth to inhibit the sustenance of the herbivorous and in turn carnivorous/omnivorous creatures that roamed in their scaly, or, as it is now believed, feathery, glory. Hence, a new factor has been introduced by a particularly learned boops boops: cupcakes. To many unassuming individuals, a cupcake is a mere representation of a larger idea, the cake. Yet, the cup-sized sweet plays a rather greater role in the cycle of life. A living creature can be identified by its necessity for energy, ability to grow and reproduce, a functioning metabolism, composition of one or more cells, and ability to respond to external stimuli. For all living creatures, prokaryotic or eukaryotic, life is impossible without the maintenance of homeostasis, the concept of equilibrium or balance within the body of an organism formed between multiple interdependent variables. One of these variables is energy. According to one online source, an average cupcake contains 200 calories, while easily exceeding that quantity when additional toppings and fillings are incorporated, consisting of 46.5% carbohydrates, 45.5% fats, and 8.1% protein (CalorieKing, 2026). Now, if one were to compare the average herbivore diet of plant matter, the most nutritious form of leaves (such as watercress, spinach, and kale, which will be used to compare to nutritious leaves of the dinosaur’s time), provide 5 to 8 calories of nutrients in the same space as a singular cupcake. Even dinosaur meat, which would have been consumed by the carnivorous creatures of the time, may have provided approximately the same quantity of calories per cup, yet would have required almost an equal amount of calories to find, hunt, and consume, and as cupcakes are not hunted (as readers may well know already), it would be irrational to make an accurate comparison. In terms of diet, to creatures that may easily require up to more than 100,000 calories daily (DinosaurWorldLive, 2026), cupcake consumption is a far easier route to attain that necessity as opposed to consuming an extraordinary intake of around 12,500 cups of leaves or having to hunt multiple animals a day. On the other hand, many people may argue a rather prominent and valid question as to accessibility. Will one’s average velociraptor have access to the bakeries of today? The unfortunate answer would be no. Without the appropriate ingredients, due to the lack of abundance, the average dinosaur being capable of procuring the staples of a cupcake would be impossible, let alone leaving the poor creature to figure out the complexity of starting a fire and cooking. For this reason, dinosaurs went extinct as their common food source of vegetables and meat went astray from what would have sustained their populations, unable to find salvation in a food that wasn’t even invented until many centuries later. Even had such food been procurable, would it be sustainable long term? Factories did not become a concept until the modern time of humans, and baking was yet again another masterpiece of human civilization. Therefore, had there not been an impossibility to the access to cupcakes, dinosaurs may yet have roamed the Earth to this day thriving off the nutrient packed sweet that drives many a child to their best behavior.
