FINALLY i get to write my favorite character!!! If you’ve known me for awhile you know that i talk about Moonstone much more than my other ocs. Anywaysss i dont have much to say before the chapter starts, so let’s get into it! ・ 。゚★: *.☪ .* :☆゚. Moonstone woke up abruptly, she had fallen in an uncomfortable position, the pain having stirred her from her sleep. She blinked several times, her eyes adjusting to the soft light filtering through the crystalline windows of her room. She yawned and stretched, her joints popping. She knew she was forgetting something. What was happening today? It was something, but her half-asleep mind had not yet wrapped around it. After another few moments, the realization came with a jolt. The letter. Fully awake now, she clambered out of her bed, not bothering to make it. If everything went as planned, she wouldn’t have to ever again. Moonstone darted through the palace halls with the speed of someone who knew the passages by heart. She supposed she did now, despite how unwillingly. She lived in the frozen castle, and had for some time now, but it was not her home, it was more akin to a prison. She stayed because she had to, because she had no way out. Until today! If the palace was her jail cell, the letter was the key to escape. It was her chance at a whole new life, a dream she had grown disillusioned with before concocting her escape plan. It was simple: She had sent a letter of application to Jade Mountain Academy. Once she was accepted, (she refused to think of what would happen if she wasn’t.) she would flee the ice kingdom, and have a place of refuge until she figured out what she would do with herself. All she needed to do was to collect her letter of (hopefully) acceptance, pack up her few belongings, and high tail it out of the place that had brought her nothing but strife. She glided down the stairs towards the great hall, where all the mail was delivered, but as she reached the bottom, her blood froze in her veins- could an Icewing freeze? She didn’t think so until today, but there was no other explanation for the terror she was feeling. Sleet- the right-claw dragon of the queen, the Icewing who has despised her from day one and had done everything in her power to get Moonstone injured or worse- was holding the letter meant for her. Sleet noticed Moonstone approaching, and a sinister grin crossed her sharp features. “Ah, Moonstone,” she purred, her voice cruel and conniving, like shards of glass. “I found it… quite peculiar that you seemed to have mail of your own, considering you do not have any friends. I am taking the liberty of confiscating your letter, just to make sure there is… nothing questionable inside.” Moonstone’s stomach dropped further than it already had, she felt nauseous. Once Sleet figured out Moonstone was trying to leave, she surely would tell Queen Flurry, and finally convince her that Moonstone was a liability. Her mind spiraled with all the bloodcurdling possibilities of what the sadistic ruler of the Icewings would do to her. Her claws dug into the ground, she couldn’t think of anything to say, to stop the inevitable, she couldn’t even speak, she wanted to flee, but her legs seemed rooted to the spot. But salvation came in an unlikely form, as a piercing voice echoed through the hall- “Sleet,” the voice clamored. “What are you doing?” Moonstone turned to look at her savior, Prince Iceberg as he sauntered into the chamber.
“Your majesty!” Sleet gave him a strained smile that looked more like a baring of teeth. “I was just-“ Iceberg cut her off. “That letter you are holding- I asked Moonstone to deliver it to me. Why do you have it?” Moonstone’s eyes narrowed, confused, but before she could wrap her head around anything that was happening, Sleet spoke again. “Then why does it have her name on it?” Suspicion radiated from the pale celadon Icewing’s tone. “So some other dragon wouldn’t snatch it up before she could bring it to me. Much like you are doing now.” Iceberg’s expression turned to one of faint amusement. Sleet’s face flushed slightly blue, anger and embarrassment mixing into a bitter cocktail. She scowled at Iceberg and threw the letter in his direction. “Fine! Take it!” She snapped. “But you can’t blame me for being cautious around this one.” She pointed one jagged claw at Moonstone, before storming out of the room, no doubt to take her anger out on the current guard recruits. Iceberg smirked, clearly pleased, before gently picking the letter up off the ground and opening it. The brief moment of reprieve drained out of Moonstone’s body as she witnessed Iceberg read through letter. He was not as cruel as Sleet, but Moonstone had no idea what he would do. She flinched away, drawing into herself when Iceberg turned to look at her. But instead of anger, and much to Moonstone’s surprise, he chuckled lightly. “So… Jade Mountain Academy, hm?” Moonstone blinked in disbelief and stared up at Iceberg, who had a soft smile touching his face. “I was accepted?” She blurted out. he nodded. “You’re…. not going to tell Flurry, right?” She asked tentatively. Iceberg chuckled. “No. I don’t have to tell her anything. When are you leaving?” Moonstone was placated by his answer, and figured it would not hurt to tell him. “As soon as possible. I came down here to get the letter, and I was planning to leave as soon as I packed my things.” Iceberg hummed in acknowledgment. He seemed to pick his next words carefully. “Good for you.” tipped his head in acceptance of her answer, a look that might have been pride crossed his face. “You’re a dragonet. You should be at Jade Mountain Academy, learning and making friends, instead of being stuck in this place, nothing but Flurry’s toy.” Moonstone internally bristled at being addressed as the queen’s plaything, although she couldn’t refute the claim. She stayed silent for several moments- contemplating what to say to the dragon who probably just saved her life. “…Thank you.” She finally managed to choke out, and immediately cringed at the lackluster gratitude she had given him. She stumbled over her next words; “I- I mean it. I don’t know what Sleet would’ve done if she had found out. You… really saved me.” Iceberg looked slightly downcast, although Moonstone quickly realized his reaction was not directed at her. “It’s really the least I could do. Flurry is my sister, I never should’ve allowed her to take advantage of you for so long, or at all.” There was an awkward, guilt-filled pause before he continued- “Although I suppose there is no use dwelling on things we didn’t do. You have your way out right here!” His eyes brightened a modicum, as he handed the letter back to Moonstone. Once he had placed it in her claws, he turned around, glancing at her one last time. “I suggest you go pack your things. I’m sure Sleet is still suspicious. She’ll come snooping around sooner or later. Goodbye, Moonstone. and good luck.” With that, he left, leaving Moonstone alone in the empty room. The rest of the morning passed in a blur, Moonstone frantically stuffing her few possessions in a small bag. Moonstone gave her bedroom one last glance. She hoped she would never have to lay eyes on it again. She opened the window, and leaped out, free falling for a few seconds before spreading her wings and flapping quickly to catch herself. As she glided smoothly through the air, away from her prison, she didn’t give the palace a second glance. That was the past, this was the future. Freedom awaited, and nothing could keep her from it now. ・ 。゚★: *.☪ .* :☆゚. First: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1142280007/ Previous: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1296606568/ Next:
