"Amber" Maybe if you were less timid about breathing, You could blow away the curtains and mosquitoes But the summer heat says “hush, dear” and puts a finger to your lips The summer moon says he loves you but never comes near You are trapped within this brain fog Like a bride behind a veil You see silhouettes flickering from here to there Remember when life used to feel so real? Remember when you could touch it? The closest you can get, now, is to exhale on the glass walls And draw stars in the fog, shapes that are wiped away by morning. If you squint through the amber, you could maybe distinguish The thawing of frost and the tilting of the planet If you are silent long enough, you could maybe tell apart The pulse of your own heart and the desert lullaby If you are lucky, the night might even dismiss you, But never without a cost; The cost of summer heat brushing over your lips And summer moon hiding in darkness for good.
