Crystalline Industries is an organization mainly known for its discoveries under the Earth's surface. The Group was made up of geologists, engineers, and materials scientists. At first they called themself The Crystalline Group. But later in the 1970s, the group was redesigned and came to become what we know as Crystalline Industries. In 1970 The Soviet Union started a project to uncover what's under the Earth's surface, known as the Kola Superdeep Borehole. In 1983, the Soviet Union passed 12,000 meters (39,370 ft). Then, a major breakdown occurred in 1984, leaving a 5-km drill string in the hole, stopping the digging progress for two years. Then they stopped. The reason was the temperature. The rock was hotter than expected, over 180 degrees Celsius. Equipment kept failing. The Soviets sealed the borehole, buried the findings, and quietly shut the project down. Leaving the hole abandoned for possibly decades. At least that's what the Soviets thought. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991. Crystalline Industries purchased the Kola Superdeep Borehole site and all classified research attached to it for a fraction of what it was worth. The new Russian government needed money for its severe economic crisis, and since the company was trusted by almost every country in the world, they accepted the deal with no hesitation. Crystalline Industries bought the Kola Superdeep Borehole. The geologists started using it to farm materials. Once they found the materials, they decided to build a research and manufacturing facility called The Forge Institute to keep their findings and experiment on the materials found. While digging through the borehole. They discovered something through the Earth's crust, called the Abyss Layer. The Abyss Layer was a Layer in the crust found by Crystalline Industries back in mid 1993. This was found not too long after Crystalline Industries bought the Soviet borehole. They used a material containing a high melting point called Zoinkum to be able to keep digging in the high heat of the Kola Superdeep Borehole. The Forge Institute was built on a remote, unnamed mountain range. The Institute was not just a research and manufacturing facility. It was also an underground city that Crystalline Industries made to keep their workers and findings. The facility contained Power generation, living quarters, laboratories, and manufacturing floors. Workers were hired on contracts that included strict non-disclosure agreements. 247 workers were sent underground. None of them came back up. While trying to find a new energy source to both power the Forge Institute and make a profit from it. Somewhere around 4.2 miles beneath the surface, the drill broke through into the hollow space. What they found was not a new energy source. What they actually found was a black liquid substance that absorbs everything around it, called Compound X-904. The newly founded compound was able to absorb light, heat, and sound. The scientists were stunned. Tests suggested the compound contained more stored energy than anything ever recorded. After the discovery of Compound X-904, the facility changed for the worse. The Forge Institute became out of order or odd. Reports were shorter. Worker check-ins stopped. mentions of missing workers, equipment malfunctions, and lights going out. Then silence. Crystalline Industries sent a recovery team. The team descended. The team never reported back. Crystalline Industries sealed the surface entrance, buried every record of the facility’s existence, and issued a response to the closing of The Forge Institute. “The Forge Institute has been abandoned due to a massive gas leak. Everyone inside was killed, and a memorial for everyone killed in the gas leak will be located far from the mountain range because the poisonous gas there is very harmful to mankind.” That was the official response. The real reason was classified. Hidden away in redacted documents, due to Crystalline Industries deeming the information to be harmful to the public. Crystalline Industries still exists. Still trusted by governments and corporations worldwide. No one actually knows what happened to The Forge Institute. They only believe the so-called “real” reason why the facility was shut down. The real reason is still there in the redacted documents. From the Kola Superdeep Borehole data. Compound X-904 analysis. And the last record messages from the 247 workers sent to The Forge Institute.
