*SPOILERS AHEAD* Ok so can I yap about my new favorite book/movie, project hail Mary? Too bad I'm doing it anyway. Guys, I LOVE this book/movie. I watches the movie and had to read the book. The book goes into a lot more detail about the science and math and stuff and has a lot of additional stuff that the movie does not include for time. One example is freaking nuking Antarctica?! In the book they realize that they will not have time to fully complete the hail Mary mission before the earth starts freezing, so they try to bump up global warming by nuking glaciers in Antarctica to release methane, one of the primary gases responsible for global warming. Another example is the coma resistance genes. In the book, there's a whole thing about one in seven thousand people having this gene that lets them survive being in a coma for many years like they will need to be for the mission. They pick out people that have this gene for the mission because that's the only way they will succeed. The interesting thing about this is that Dr. Grace actually has this gene, and stratt knows it. I heard someone describe it as "Grace was kept around partly because of this, he was kind of like stratt's hail Mary the whole time, in case something happened to the scientists for the mission" Now to talk about my favorite part of the movie, the music and visuals. Holy cowww guys it was amaze amaze amaze. Watching "having a moment" scene in theaters was insane. With the music filling your entire conscious and the visuals filling your entire field of view was......wow. I couldn't stop smiling it was so cool. Astrophage may be the villain of this whole thing but it sure is pretty. That music also was insane, I listened to it while watching the sunset and for some reason the whole movie made me appreciate what we have here on earth. In a world where everyone would give anything to leave, Dr Grace would give anything to go back to, and that's inspiring. I am not ashamed to admit I totally listen to the soundtrack in my free time. It's just too good. It really helps you feel what you're meant to feel in the moment, especially the "time go fishing" scene, that was a whole nother level of tense, I keep seeing Instagram reels about people sitting on the edge of their seats with the music from the scene playing. Speaking of Instagram, people LOVE this movie. My fyp is filled with edits and animations people made for this movie. Guys, go watch in theaters. Some movies aren't meant for little screens CONTINUED BELOW
The pic is a screenshot of an inst@gr@m post i made about PHM Now to talk about the story itself. Besides having the sickest name ever, PHM's story is so wholesome and awesome. This is a story about being brave and how to be brave you need someone to be brave for. It's so cute. I think the movie actually does a little better job portraying this than the book. In the movie we see little kind of foreshadowings that Grace is just a scared little guy. He runs away from a lot of stuff. Rocky's ship, the spacewalk, etc. rocky also gets the opportunity to save Grace instead of in the book where they kind of save each other after the fishing scene. That all is leading up to the big moment where we realize that Grace was so terrified to go on the mission, he had to be tackled to the ground and forced to go along with it. And we realize "oh he really is a coward" until Grace finally gets the opportunity to save Rocky, making the moment even bigger since the whole movie we watched him run away from stuff. Meanwhile in the book it's not as big since we see him doing brave stuff basically the whole time. Also, watching/reading this randomly gave me a huge burst of motivation for my science classes lol. I went from a C to an A because of PHM.
